Stupid Question
Stupid Question
My 07 has the stock security system. I usually turn the alarm on and off with the button on the door. When the alarm turns on, I can turn it off with my fob by pressing the unlock button. My question is how do I activate the alarm with my fob? When I press the lock button on my fob, the lights flash, the horn beeps once, and the doors lock. Seems like the alarm is activated, but after a couple seconds the doors unlock. Is there something wrong with my alarm or am I doing something wrong? Shouldn't it be as easy as pressing lock and unlock on the fob?
Unless there is something radically different with the '07 alarm system, this sounds like a problem. I have not seen this situation posted here before. At least not in the last four years.
Unless one of the '07 owners here has an explanation, this sounds like a warranty-covered trip to your local Nissan service department.
In the meantime, I assume you can lock the car (without it then unlocking itself) by flipping the 'lock' switch inside the driver's door before closing it?

Ever since I read about people being able to "capture" the signal from your key fob and later using that signal to unlock your doors, I have only used my key fob to unlock my doors (because I was driving my car away after unlocking).
Damn sounds like u like in Compton California.. but its CO... Is crime that bad u have to worry about ppl stealing the signal from your KEy FOB

Mine locks/unlocks and arms/disarms just fine from the keyfob. However, I usually just press the request button on the door handle, because I've gotten in the habit of just leaving the keyfob in my pocket and never taking it out.
Unfortunately, sounds like you might have a problem of some type.

I almost got locked out of my car due to the crazy computer algorithmn. Just a hint: I ended up putting a "hide-a-key" with a $1.25 Home Depot key copy underneath the driver's side door sill. Shshsh. Don't tell anybody. I don't want anyone stealing my Maxima here in Atlanta.
SilverMax_04 - Thanks for catching my mis-wording. I had forgotten that individual doors can be locked simply by flipping the lock lever. I have never used anything but the 'lock all' button you mentioned. It was my error to refer to it as simply the 'lock' switch.
As for someone capturing your keyfob signal, that is a new one for me. Living south of Atlanta, that may be something I need to keep in mind. Lots of cars are stolen in the Metro area. The captured signal possibility is probably one of the reasons our garage door openers use a rolling scramble type of code that is never repeated.
Briancopeland - For over fifty years, I have always kept a spare key in a magnetic box hidden under my cars. I usually put the box in a place where it can't be seen, like on top of the frame 'I' beam. On some cars, I actually hid the key inside the frame beam, where one had to reach through a small hole and feel for the box. There have been times (especially in my younger days) when that hidden key was a 'lifesaver'.
The '04 Maxima is a good car with which to do that because we can hide a key that will not start the car. In fact, it is possible to set things so that the hidden key can get you in the car, but not into either the glove compartment or trunk (disables the driver's door trunk release and requires a computerized key to open the lock on the latch that allows the back seat to be folded forward, allowing access to the trunk).
The need for that hidden key is somewhat diminished for me due to the fact my wife and I each carry our own keyfobs on any out-of-town trip.

It sounds like you have a malfunction. Unless the 07 alarm was upgraded with a shock sensor. Our alarm does not sound for vibration.
Your fob unlocks your doors for you without pressing a button right? Maybe you're supposed to lock the doors and have a set time to be out of range?

There is no autolock function to protect you if you forget (or are too lazy) to lock the doors.
Finally had time to go to the dealer. It took 5 minutes to fix the problem....you'd think they'd test this kind of stuff after they install it. Anyway, it works fine now, but I have another stupid question. If something sets my alarm off and I'm not there to shut it off, how long will it take to stop sounding? Will it ever stop? This alarm is really sensitive and every loud exhaust passing next to it sets it off.
What was the problem? Sounds like you have an aftermarket alarm, as there are no sensors on the stock system like you describe. I know there is a safetey feature that won't allow you to lock your keys in the car with the intellikey. I found that out the hard way one day when locking up and grabbing some items from the trunk. In the process I thru my wifes purse in the truck with her key for the max, shut the trunk and a few seconds later...POP. lid pooped open. So I kept shutting it not thinking about this since it was all new (i just got the car), until it hit me that her key was in the trunk. Took it out and she stayed shut...Oh, it beeped at me too, not the horn, that low chirp it does when locking or unlocking. Couldn't figure out what was going on for the life of me, quite funny actually.

The stock alarm should only sound if a door is opened without the key. We don't have shock sensors as OEM.
you said "dealer installed" but factory alarms are installed in the factory
so your lights flash and all?

Factory alarms are installed in the factory, but they don't activate it unless you pay for it....at least that's how people (including the dealer) have explained it to me. And the lights do flash and horn sounds. I've read on this forum that the factory alarms don't come with shock sensors, but can someone really confirm it? My alarm sounds when loud cars pass by. It even sounded when I bumped into the side mirror once. You guys think it's defective or were the 07 alarms "upgraded" with shock sensors?

VEHICLE SECURITY SYSTEM
The vehicle security system provides visual and
audible alarm signals if someone opens the doors
or trunk lid when the system is armed. It is not,
however, a motion detection type system that
activates when a vehicle is moved or when a
vibration occurs.
All '07s (and, according to specs published at NissanNews.com, all 6Gs) come from the factory with this system (activated), so either the dealer took credit for something he shouldn't have or he screwed up your factory system with an "upgrade". Either way, it shouldn't be doing that and you need to shove your foot up somebody's butt at the dealer.

Maybe it wasn't included because I had a base model Max? Maybe the optional alarm systems I saw on the stickers were "upgraded" aftermarket alarms? Either way, I don't think they ripped me off because they obviously installed something extra. I have an extra red led light attached on the driver side down below the side mirror controls....do you guys have this? Could it be the aftermarket alarm's "activated led light"? Because I see another led light on the dash that is probably the factory one.
Seems like one of those "value added" dealer stickers - usually see paint treatment and scotchguard on those things. From all you've indicated, it sounds like your dealer added SOMETHING. Not necessarily a rip-off if they added a motion sensor, but its their responsibility to make it work correctly.
your dealer is adding these alarms, not made by nissan.
ask them how to adjust the sensitivity. only they can answer the alarm interval question. alarms i've had deactivated after a few minutes to prevent causing a noise violation.
