Removal of rear spring

I heard it's really easy (1 screw), but I did not have any luck at all finding out how to do it using the search functions.

How do you remove/replace the rear spring? Do you need a compressor?

Thanks!

Put the car on stands. Remove the rear wheel. Support the lower link with a jack. Remove one of the bolts, there are only two bolts that hold the lower link in. One is on the subframe, one is connected to the knuckle. Unbolt, slowly lower jack, spring falls out. Pretty simple.

You dont have to remove the wheels to do it... Did you get springs without instructions?

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I had a shop install the front springs and evidently they lost the directions.

I'm all over it, should be interesting.

I'll do pics before/after (it's going to look bad I bet), give you feedback on handling and ride quality as well as drum roll...how much (if any) she rubs the wheelwells.

Stay tuned...

^^Why? Put the rear on jack stands, put the jack under the spring boot and jack it up slightly, undo the closest bolt to the center of the car, SLOWLY let the jack down and the spring pops out. Slap in the new spring, jack the boot up until the hole lines up replace the bolt/nut, let jack down repeat on other side. 15 min's tops...

I just like the extra room of taking the tire off, and it only takes 45 seconds.

Finished it!

You definetly can do it without taking the wheel off but...

The time you save not taking the wheel off will be spent-and then some lining
the frickin' screw up with the hole because of the lack of visibility.

Very easy task. Plan on 15-20 minutes per side.

The results were kinda surprising. Looks wise I'm not loving it. Don't get me wrong it looks nicer than stock. With the H&R springs the rear end is way low. Amazingly, so far no rubbing. The H&R springs do almost nothing for leveling the car (unlike Progress or Eibachs).
The car was almost level with just the fronts installed.

Now the good part...the ride seems to be even smoother (???) and handling is even a little better. I have a Progress rear stabalizing bar and KYB GR2's installed. Let me tell you, the ride is extremely smooth compared to stock form but the handling is greatly improved. How did H&R do this?

I drove a stock 6th Gen today with only Progress springs installed (otherwise stock) and my ride quality even with KYB GR2's and RSB is way better and handling is very close/slightly behind in terms of body lean. My ride quality is so good I uped the tire pressure. I'm hitting bumps in the rode on purpose and can't believe how good the car handles it.

If you're looking to have your car lowered 1.25 inches in the front and about a inch in the rear-and want to maintain your ride quality while improving your handling go with H&R springs. Just remember, leveling is completely out of the question. For maximum looks, Eibachs or Progress. You will take a pretty good hit on ride quality tho.

BTW I think KC is onto something. Loosening the bolt closest to the center of the car (wish you had said that before) is probably easier, because it is probably easier to re-align the bolt to the hole due to the pivot point.
Of course I had to do it the harder way by loosening the bolt closest to the wheel. Dumb is as dumb does, me cries...ignorance is NOT bliss!

Thanks. It settled some overnight. It got too dark so I'm waiting till I get off work for pics. You're going to see it is extremely low. So far no rubbing tho.

I must admit it has tightened up the suspension for the better.
Now I need some tight turns.

"Sorry, but i prefer the lower front end."

Yeah I hear ya.
I prefer the look of the Eibachs or Progress springs over the H&R springs.
However, the ride quality and handling is superb with the H&R springs.

From everything I have heard the Eibachs seem to have a better ride quality than the Progress...something to consider "before" you install the Progress springs.

Let it be known, in terms of aesthetics-the H&R springs leave a lot to be desired on the front end of the Maxima. Everything else about them is outstanding!
