New black rims with red lip installed!!!

So I go to my tire and wheel guy (Discount Tires of El Monte, CA) to get some front tires. They tell me they dont have them in stock. I huff a little and glance They are RH Evolution J5 rims - black with red lip. I held them up to the car, and people gathered. All agreed it looked sick. So I bought them. I also wanted larger tires. Since the rims are 18x9 I got 265 35 18 Dunlop FM901 tires. They fit beautifully. Here are some pics. Ill try to get better ones.

looks nice Deus. only question.... isn't a 35 series a little small on a 265 wide tire?

265x0.35=92.75mm tall sidewall w/ 18" new wheel
245x0.45=110.25mm tall sidewall w/ 18" stock wheel

seems like it'd throw off the odo/speedometer just a bit without calibration.

Those look simply amazing.... I miss the days when I could just go into a store and pull out the cash like this. With a new baby and a wife not going back to work, it puts a lock on the wallet

No biggie at 60MPH most mixed cycle driving, his speedo will be at 63mph. Maybe that will slow him down.

Deus, I gather your son took the pics? Dude thats DAMN dude!! DUDE, k you convinced me on the red lip thing.

Wanna sell me the old rims?
And did the extra wide tires add to the tourqe steer or remove tourqe steer?

Love the look!

Tires do seem a bit on the small side.

None the less, love it! Personally would have went bigger on the rim, 19", and tires.

Thanks for the opinions. Please give me more feedback, good or bad. I was surprised at how sharp the rims looked when I had them mounted. My son did take the driving shots, and he told me how good they looked while spinning. I plan on painting the rear brake caliper to match the red. I do notice the speedometer is off like with my other rims, but its only off by about 3 mph at 60 mph.
With regard to handling: its spectacular. I can really feel the difference in the wider tires. I want to dial in a bit more oversteer, so I plan on getting the rear end links from Taz. My 16 year old daughter commented after we were zipping around a bit. She said "This car is truly amazing, but I still don't like the roof spoiler."

Much cleaner than I had originally thought. I wasn't in on the red lip, but I do like it, now that I can see them on.

Looks extremely aggressive. Very nice.....

See it in August?

Now about that plate.......

I was on the fence when you first mentioned the idea of this style of rim, I was thinking it would look more like the 1960's Bat Mobile; cartoonish. But now that I see the finished product.... Batman would give his left nut to have a crime fighting machine that looked that good. Nice job!!!

Way to small for my taste, but the rims themselves look good, time attack status.

Shoulda gotten 19's IMO.

Damn Deuski you really pimped it out, now that is how a car should look, that is what all tuners should strive for.

Man when I can get some $$ stillen sides and rear, new grill and a new spoiler. Your car inspires me to work on mine.

Thank you again!!! I asked about 19's and they didnt have them in that size. Remember, I am looking for performance,so the 18s are best for that, but I think 19s would have looked a tick better.

4myswee: Im sure Ill be there in August. I may even enter in the Japanese category if I can get the car where i want it.

My next idea is kind of subtle. I mentioned it in my other thread when I had the idea of the black rim/red lip. I want to make a thin red border around my grill much like the new VW Gti shown here:

Any ideas as to how I can make this?

The hard thing is that your grill sits IN the opening with the hood sloping over it, whereas that grill more than likely sits behind the opening. I would suggest trying some red trim tape on the bumper along the front of your grill, maybe even some on the under side of the hood above the grill. It's a temporary solution which can help you decide what you want, and may even provide a permanent result. I would suggest using those fender trims, but I doubt it's available in red and the flexible ones are rubber. Here's some photoshops of different examples.

Here the opening in front of the grill is painted red.

Here there is a red trim on the front of the opening, going along the bumper opening and also the hood.

Here there is a red trim directly in front of the grill.

They look good. I think they look bigger sitting still and just a little smaller in motion. Looks very clean and go great with the color.

Ya know, J,you're right about the Knightrider LED. NOW would be a great time for that. I think they sell it on ebay.

The torque steer seems to be better because of the better grip. Ill do further testing to see. The problem was, that the old tires were so worn, they got very darty.
