Help with Dealer! (Car there now!)

Hey Guys,

Need some advice.

I have a '04 Silver SE (32k miles) that's having all sorts of issues. I finally got all my suspension problems solved but now i noticed she's shifting (auto) real odd between 2-3 (almost feels as if its slipping then dumping) and also my idle really sucks on the motor, really lumpy and lots of valve noise.

Since its still under the powertrain warranty i took it to the local dealer (Woodbury Nissan, NJ). They just called me and said it needed the following:

Fuel System Cleaning - $350
Oil Flush/Change - $149
Transmission Fluid Change - $149

I said go ahead on the Oil Flush/Change (I had no knowledge of prior owners pattern of oil changes) and said ok to tranny fluid change as i'm pretty hard on her i figure every 30k isn't that bad.

But its the Fuel system bit. WTF. Dealer tried to tell me Nissan recommends a fuel system cleaning every 15k miles. What a buncha bull****. I told them to eff off on the fuel system, but what about the rest. Any insight?

Thanks!

Those are outrageous prices, fuel system cleaning = fuel filter.

$149 dollars for an oil/filter change, that's all their going to do, they obviously don't read the service manual!!!

Tranny fluid change is pretty close in price, however if they use a power flush machine I would not recommend it because a power flush does not clean the bottom of the pan or clean the screen, I purchased the Genuine Nissan AT fluid and took it to a transmission service center and they did the fluid change the correct way, including changing the gasket and o-rings and Total price adding the fluid I purchased was about $120.00

PS, The owners manual does recommend the tranny fluid change at 30K

Thanks for the info Chernmax. It just pisses me off to no end how much the dealerships try to just screw you every chance they can. Even after i called back (Before posting the initial message) to tell them to blow it out their asses on the Fuel System cleaning the guy argued with me saying the throttle body was dirty and Nissan says it should be done every 15k miles, etc. I looked up Nissans service schedule off their website and it doesn't mention anything about that at all.

Bastards.

Try different dealer or independent Nissan shops.

New air filter, fuel injection cleaner should help with the idling issue; oil/filter change should cost more than $50 w/ full synthetic. And don't do full trannie flush yet, just drain and refill since you could have some issue w/ it. I think there's a TSB for '04 trannie too.

If I'm not mistaking, cvt trannies don't need to be flushed; they use a special type of fluid which when I got mine changed, was a little costly ($99.00). I get the same down shift, especially when I'm moving in slow traffic; all of a sudden it down shifts, very noticeable (annoying as hell). I took mine in they said there is nothing wrong with the tranny nor was there any code to indicate a problem. Right now My exhaust smells like rotten eggs and they told me there is nothing wrong, why? Because there is no code indcicating a problem. I thingk the bastards are trying to run my patience and warranty to the end so that I would have to pay for whatever work that needs to be done. I suggest you take your car to another dealer.

Seems to have come from left field since the original poster has an 04, hence, no CVT.

Holy moly do i have one for you guys. I got stuck at work last night so i had my wife go get my car. I told her to just pay whatever and if its screwed i'll deal with it today. Well i never got to leave work last night and i'm just getting home now and see the bill. Oh my fregging god. I just called the dealership but neither the service manager nor the general manager are around to speak to me (Of course they aren't).

My favorite sections are the part about my tranny dumping gears is due to me needing a fuel system cleaning. My second favorite is where they charged me approx $65 to change my air filter.

Here's a hacked up scan of my work order

How does your a$$ feel today?? You've just been prison raped. Damn, I am glad I go to a very good dealership... I've never had any problems with them. Service departments are suppossed to bend over backwards to make their customers happy, it looks as though they bent you over to make themselves happy.

Ha nice of you to ask. Not a DAMN thing is different other then my wallet being lighter. My motor still sounds as if i have an exhaust leak or something. Less of a valve tap and more of a *puff puff puff puff*.

Tranny still hops real hard from 2-3 regardless of speed/temp.

No one has called me back even after 2 more calls on my part. I wonder if its time to perhaps call the BBB & State Attorney General's office.
