Anyone have a third gear pull of rpm vs time?
I need someone else's third gear pull as a reference point. I have a bog at 4k in mine that doesn't occur in 2nd and would like to see if everyones does this. I originally attributed it to the VIAS but even after disconnecting it the problem still occured. Kinda stumped and want to see other people's rpm's vs time in third gear. As reference here is a graph showing what I mean.

Please leave this in the 6th gen forum as it pertains to a 6th gen.

I am not sure if this is related but this is what I noticed just recently on the strip. It was my max 04 3.5 SE (fujita CAI) vs 04 alti 3.5 SE (nismo CAI) vs. Mustang (don't know what kind but it sounded mean)
We did some friendly runs and were almost always head to head
from the hole I was leading about a lenght of a car through 1st and 2nd gear but once the tranny shiften to 3rd the car kind of lost its power and they were able to take me. Any ideas???

Not that I can tell. Looking at all the sensors you wouldn't interpolate that. Also from other posts hasn't that been disproven. The Air flow climbs at a steady rate, the AFR is linear, the timing is solid. After disconnecting the VIAS and nothing changing I am leaning towards an electronic program of some sort.

That's the only one I know of. I'm sure there are others. There's always the site dedicated to 6th gens. http://www.6thgenmaxima.org/

I thought it's the transmission shifting quicker, but it could be something in the stock program. I haven't had time to get an independent dyno, so I don't have anything recent.

I did a couple of 2nd gear pulls and it ran straight through no problems. I can't do a 4th gear pull as speed would be a very large issue. So what electronic device would make it hang in 3rd but not 2nd, or is it an issue of speed vs rpm with the ECU. I'm lost.

I may have figured it out. A32's & A33's do this in 3rd as well. Give me a minute while I link you. ....
I've always felt it, but never had any data to compare, until this:

Here's where it relates to you 5AT fellas:

Short answer, it's your lock-up torque converter doing its job.

Short answer, use another gear, or leave in "D".
Try shifting @ or before the normal lag, and see how it affects it. The A33 automatic shifts @ 6000 when left in D. In order to hold it to fuel cut, it needs to be in 3rd(or whatever gear is desired to rev to fuel cut), but whenever left in 3rd, I get the lag. When I leave it in D, then shift it back into 3rd @ 5800, I still get it, but at that(5800) RPM.
Not sure about your car, but the A33 you can feel power increase when the RPM's jump back up. This is noted when being in 3rd, then getting the lag, then shortly after, 500-1000 RPM, shifting into D, the power increase is noted. Power increase is related to RPM increase obviously.
Strange thing is, when I dyno in 3rd, I do not see this happen, nor feel it, but if I floor it from 2nd, and it shifts into 3rd, I get the lag when in third on the dyno. All the A34 dynos I've seen, if they did use that gear, it DID show up (small blip). But in 4th, or 2nd, apparently it does not happen.

I have a 2004 SE with about 140k. Yes I know, I drive too much. Anywayz, last Saturday after getting my new rotors installed, I jumped into my car to test them out. As I put the key into the ignition to and turned the car on, I noticed that the display screen in the middle of the odometer was off. When I shifted the car into reverse, I heard and felt a loud bang, which came from the engine area. When I shifted the car into drive, and pressed the gas, the car felt as though it was in a high gear which caused it to the slowly gain momentum.
I took the car into Nissan and they informed me that it's a transmission assembly issue. (not mechanical) The transmission computer is not communication between the engine and the transmission. They also informed that the part would cost me over $1000,00 plus installation.
Have you guys ever experienced this issue or have any suggestion before I push the car over a cliff!

You know what..when i had my A33B auto at the track..i dont know if this is the same thing you feel, but in 3rd gear at a higher rpm it seemed like there was 2 3rd gears..like an extremely close ratio (+ - 200 rpm difference) not saying there is 2, but it felt like it, when you coast in 3rd, than hit the gas, the rpms would drop a few hundred rpm a sec after acceleration began. hard to explain

lol yeah !!
I usually get that when im passing on the freeway in 4th. its like the car shifts, then shifts again in the same gear(display says 4th when this happens).
