Just an FYI regarding our ActiveTuning Custom KYB AGX rear shocks

We just had a customer post a really great review of our custom KYB AGX rear shock solution:

"Had OEM springs, then Progress and then Eibach Pro. I was not happy. Got KYB GR2 all around. Something was still missing. Installed the AGX on my 05 Max. Wow. I now have a different car. At position 1, the ride is really plush but stable. Position 3/4 is like the GR2s. At 6 is firm but with incredible stability. Real happy. Easy install. Worth every $$.

Thanks Madmik!

damn it you! I have been considering these for a while now since they would almost eliminate squat under hard acceleration and obviously improve handling!

Haha sorry For those of you interested in more of a performance suspension feel, a rear sway bar and our rear shock solutions have made the most drastic difference in our opinion.

I absolutely love the KYB AGX shocks on my car too, love the ease and flexability of switching between street and track...

If I could I would! Unfortunately though, it costs us a lot more to make then you would probably think, therefor our margins on the product are not very high...so it doesn't give us much room to budge on pricing. This is why we've never run a group buy or anything like that on any of our fiberglass grilles.

We would like to move to a 100% in-house production at some point, and if that ever happens, we'd definitely be able to lower our pricing. As of now, we are at the hands and feet of our fiberglass manufacturer

I guess we could always move to out of the country production, but everything we've seen from outside of the US has been shoddy quality. We'd much rather make less and get less sales, but know we have a quality product...then sell more, pay less, but sell a crappy product.

No problem, I just reach up behind the rear tire and turn. The **** is easy to turn and clicks with each setting change. Takes me all of 45 seconds to do both...

KYB's are $255 + shipping
Koni's have a few pricing options, but in general they are $375 + shipping

I would highly suggest starting off with just the KYB's as they make a more drastic difference in our opinion (and cost less). After doing that, you can then make the decision whether or not to do the full package and pick up the fronts.

P.S. - The pricing is per PAIR

thanks for the instant reply, dave.

quick question - the KYB's you offer are 255$ per pair so 510$ + shipping for the fronts and the rears? and they're that price because they're adjustable - are these the same struts as Cattmans? just wondering...

No problem, you're a little confused based on your response.

The Maxima has shocks in the rear and struts in the front. We offer a custom KYB AGX solution for the rear shocks and a custom Koni Sport solution for the front struts.

So to do the full package you're looking at:

04-06 Maxima Rear shocks: $255 (pair)
04-06 Maxima Front struts: $375 (pair)
Total: $630 + Shipping

Note: There are some options with the struts in terms of pricing because an OEM strut is required to modify and fit the Koni's into them. Check out our product page for full details. We offer a fully refundable $250 core charge option which gets 100% refunded upon return of your OEM struts and upper insulators.

These are top of the line struts/shocks from KYB and Koni, fully adjustable dampening...You have to figure in the price of the parts + the labor involved in us modifying them to fit the Maxima. That's where the cost comes in play. Not sure what Cattman is doing, I looked on their webpage, and didn't see anything listed for a 04-06 Maxima.

Cattman offers the GR2 struts and shocks which are not adjustable, but do offer a bit more stiffness in the suspension. I prefer the flexibility of adjustable suspension, and I do track the car sometimes.

Ahh ok, I see. Yeah GR2's although some may say are stiffer than OEM, are meant to be OEM replacements. Our solution is for those looking for a performance solution

. . and that's precisely why I have the Konis and AGXs. I had a chance to wring out the car a bit in the mountains and its spectacular.

I have the KYB AGX shocks and had thought that there was a problem with them but it was something else that I had fixed. They work good on these messed up streets in Brooklyn, NY. On the road going to Florida its a smooth ride. I also have a Stillen anti-sway bar and racing end links.

Ramberg - you're on just KYB AGX, right? OEM front struts?

Yes I am riding on OEM front struts. These are my 2nd set, I had them installed awhile back. I never had problems with the 1s set like some members had. Its was a deal I couldn't pass up.

I also have the Stillen front strut bar.

U & Me both bro. I drive on Konis at 3/4 and AGX at 6 all the time and I love it. In winter time i set everything to soft because it keeps me in line from overextending my cars adhesion limits on ICY roads. Which is very very easy on winter tires.

I have OEM rims with the AGX **** facing the back of the car. I get my arm between the spokes and adjust. I don't even get dirty.

On top, u have to remove the plastic trim pieces from engine bay that cover the strut to adjust them.

Upgraded Suspension Parts

The combination of ADJ. Konis Front struts & KYB AGX Shocks is phenomenal, I purchased my set back in March, an notice a immediate difference in comfort & stability. Especially in the rear with the RSB and ADJ. Kyb AGX shocks, plus my car is drop 2.25 inches in the front & a little over 2 inches in the rear on 22s. Regular Intrax springs in the front and modified Intrax springs in the rear. There definitely worth the price!

With the upgraded wheels the need to lower my car is apparent. From what I've read over the years it seems progress springs seem to be most popular, although Eibach's are also a good solution.

So if I was primarily going for the 2" drop of the springs, and didn't plan on making many adjustments since I don't run my car at the track. Would it be unwise to put springs on the OEM shocks/struts? (Both front struts replaced under warranty w/in the last 18 months).

Thanks,

Thanks,
Progress is a significantly less expensive way to lower your car than Eibachs.
That's the main reason they are more popular. I think Progress is great especially since Cattman supplies new shorter bump stops with them. They are roughly $180 shipped.

Lots of folks have gotten away with using OEM struts/shocks with their drops.
You probably would as well. With GR2's your car will handle a lot better tho. And with Active Tunings struts/shocks you'll have the absolute best combo of performance and ride quality (there are really expensive tho).

When all is said and done...
Active Tuning (all 4) shipped $680
GR2's (all 4) shipped $220

If you're short on money get the Progress springs and call it the day.

Thanks for the feedback. In terms of ride comfort what is the result of changing out the springs only?

I'm sure if I lower it the car will handle better, but with the lowering would aftermarket shocks/struts further enahce ride quality?

No. You will notice improved handling with only the springs and a relatively small decrease in ride quality. Well worth though in terms of looks and handling.

Do it yourself and save a bunch of cash. With the money you save on installation you can get the Active tuning AGX shocks. You will absolutely love those shocks. Just ask others like Chernmax about them.
