6mt clutch........

I know this topic has been discussed before but all of the older threads just show people getting it fixed under warranty. I just bought my 04 SE 2 months ago and noticed yesterday the clutch went to the floor with little resistance. There was only about 2 inches of resistance and enguagement. It has 48k miles so I dont think theres any warranty on that.

What I would like to know is who has done nothing about it? Has it gone away or does it return?

For those out of warranty how much did it cost and what did the dealership fix?

It was hot as crap yesterday and I was in alot of stop and go traffic so my engine temps were really high. Ive read about it on here so when it happened I didnt get scared and it wasnt all that hard to drive for me.

Funny you asked. I just had my clutch fixed yesterday. My symptoms were the same as yours. One of the Master Technicians examined my car last week when it was acting up. He believed there was a very high probability that the seals in the master clutch cylinder leaked internally. That resulted in lost pressure. When he tapped the master cylinder, the clutch pedal popped right back up with full pressure. Yesterday, the dealership replaced the master and slave cylinders. There is an extremely high probability that this fixed the problem. I was lucky to have it done under warranty, so I don’t have a price. But you can always ask your service department how much it would cost to do the same work. At least you’ll have an idea of price.

With regard to frequency, last year this happened to my clutch three times. Those three times occurred in the heat of June and July. After July, my clutch was perfect until this month. Then it happened four times in three weeks. The last time, the clutch stayed down for 20 minutes. I don’t know if this helps, but good luck.

I appreciate your response, I might look into this at the dealership to see how much it will be as well as other mechanics. I think I could live with it for a while its not all that bad but wasnt sure if other people have lived with it and nothing ever happened.

There are enough people that have had this replaced, it might be worth printing up the thread on it (forgive me, I am not sure where it is at at this moment), and take it in. Show them that there is an obvious issue and that you would like Nissan to help solve this problem for you.

happens to me on any day over about 70 degrees F ... took mine to the dealer the other day and they couldn't reproduce the problem, as expected.. it happened the day afterwards, so I tried to rush to the dealer to show them, but by the time I got there (10 minutes later) it had stopped acting up.. it DOES seem to be getting worse for me.. I've had it so bad recently that I could barely get the car into gear..

I'm pretty annoyed with it, because it was doing it well before 36k miles, but that was right before winter.. once winter was gone, it started doing it again, but I was at 40k miles.. hopefully the fact that I'm still under 3 years will count for something, considering the amount of people with the problem.

personally, I think it should be a recall. I mean, how much could it hurt the company to have a recall on 2% of maximas? (2% = approx. percentage of manual tranny maximas)

Can you print this thread and others addressing this, up and take it in. I.e., "look here Goofy, this is how this has been solved in the past. I'll wait while you call Nissan and verify we aren't alone here. Better yet, would you like me to use my cell phone, that way we can put it on speakerphone, so all the TECH's can hear this also?"

So frustrated with the whole 'passing the buck' mentality with Nissan.

I'm sure it's like that for any dealer though.

It happend again to me afterI was in stop and go traffic for an hour. It seems to happen when its very hot or the engine is getting hot. I took it to Nissan when it happened one time and he said it was likely an internal seal.

the nearest dealer is about 15 minutes from me.. so by the time I could get mine there, it'd have stopped... unless I happen to be way out there where I never go for anything anyway.... heh.

I just printed out like 14 pages of discussion on this in 4 different threads.. I'm sure there's more too, but I didn't see them right away.. hopefully that'll help my argument.

I am also sure that it is that way at other dealerships also. Nissan is who you are dealing with at this point, thus my frustration is geared towards Nissan.

Ive previosuly had this problem, and every time i bring it to the dealership they tell me that they can not duplicate symthom. I let my car with the dealership for 2 week so that one of the mechanics can drive it home with him on a daily basics and they still didnt find the problem.

After months of this happening i got real tired of the clutch peddle going soft so i decided to change the clutch and see if that works. I have a cousin that works and a dealership and he was able to get me a clutch for $200 and he installed it for me and a reasonable price. Now that i have changed the clutch its been about 1 month and i havent had that problem with the clutck.. Im guessing that the only solution for this problem would be to change the clutch, thats what i did and the car it perfectly fine now.

hmmm ide be interested to see if that plays out for you, most of the people have talked about the master cylinder and/or the slave cylinder being replaced. Im not the greatest mechanically but i would think that its not the disc that would cause this problem.

clutch master cylinder

My 05 max only has 18,000 miles took it to the dealer for the same issue . Their answer ntf . The clutch grabs at different peddle positions some of the time during driving. It sucks! I'm with you guys it's the clutch master cylinder.

GO ******* NISSAN GO!!
Just another reason for me to want to get rid of the stupid car. My dealership has been helping out as much as they can but at this point I even think theyr frustrated and giving up also. To this point in my ownership,

48,000KM

1 engine to be replaced due to precat failure.
1 dead clutch pedal (when warm outside)
1 rear parcel shelf noise (TSB done)
1 steering wheel noise
1 pass side dash noise
1 driver side dash noise
1 drive axle replaced due to major failure (only 3rd day of ownership 481km on ODO)
1 lumbar switch dead (dead again now)
1 drivers seat rails replaced (seat was sliding around side to side).

and........

71 pages of other various warranty repairs and parts under warranty

You guys tell me, good car or lemon.?

good luck with it. come back and keep us updated on what they do to fix it, cause most of us who take it in just get "we couldn't reproduce it.. your car's fine" ... cause the dealer's made their money and they don't care, especially when it's warranty work and they're not getting paid even more.

It certainly is -- some with even pictures and/or diagrams. And remember there are other sections of this site worth visiting besides the 6th Gen posts.
I particularly like the Fluids and Lubes area.

I have an early build 04 (obtained in May of 03) and have not had any clutch problems in almost 58 K miles. I keep expecting it to act-up, but so far -- nothing.
