Autocross - Lone Pine 2007 Time Trials

Well its that time fo year again. Ill get to see how my mods stack up against 60 or so other drivers in the 37th annual Lone pine Time Trial, a long 2 1/2 mile autocross.

I'll post pics and videos of my Maxima in action on this high speed course run at the base of Mt. Whitney, the highest mountain in the USA (except Alaska).

Here is a pic of my car with Mt. Whitney slighty to the right:

Racing starts tomorrow morning and goes til Sunday afternoon. Ill post pics and vids as at the end of each day.

(Mods - If you're inclined to move this, can you wait for at least a week or so since its uncommon for 6th gen Maximas to race and htis may spark some interest in noobs. Thanks!!! Deus.)

Day One: I ran a 1:40 - Top time of day was 1:30. I probably ranked about 10th overall out of about 60 cars and some VERY good drivers and VERY fast cars.

Day Two: Course is run the opposite direction and is faster. I ran a 1:26. Top time of day was 1:20.

I gotta tell you all. I wish you could experience hte Maximas true full capabilities. It is astonishing how well this car performs. I see these little Miatas, MR2s, big block Corvettes, Subaru Stis, Hondas, etc. and the Maxima can just about beat em all. In fact, I think a really really good driver could take top time of day im my car. The car never spun out, never went out of control. Its amazing. Wait til you see the in-car video. Make sure you are sitting down. Its rivetting.

Deus, you were wicked fast out there! I was the guy running the black mazda3 hatchback; I just stumbled onto this post while googling the event looking for photos.

Your times are quite impressive and you were definitely beating much smaller lighter cars out there all day - this to all you guys reading the thread: he's not lying! I myself only managed to post a 1:46 the first day and a 1:31 the second, although my car's stock.

How much does your car weigh, anyway?

Ambrus: Thank you!! My car weighs about 3400 lbs (estimated). You looked like you drove well too. I was working the south end of the course when you were driving.

I got my results of the race today. Day 1 - Out of 56 registered drivers, I placed 3rd out of 9 in Street Prepared, and 7th overall in the whole event. Day 2 - Out of 46 registered drivers, I placed 2nd out of 9 in DSP for a trophy and 3RD OVERALL in the whole event (3rd top time of day!!!). I didnt realize how well the car fared against full race cars trailered in. The 2 cars that beat me on day two were a full race, gutted, Sentra SE-R and a turbocharged MR2.

Im really not trying to brag here, but simply demonstrate the amazing capability of these cars. Anyone who thinks they are bloated luxury cars, need to hang on til I download my in car video and look at the results of the race. Incredible!!!

Dang Deus, that rocks. Of course that car didn't make it around the track by itself. You must be a great driver.

I just gotta wonder what all those other drivers are thinking, the souped up tweaked out daily driver Maxima 3rd overall. I know there must have been a ton of WRXs, Dodge SRT4s, Beamers etc out there

Congrats again man.

Thanks guys: Here is a partial list of other cars that were there: Corvette, Camaro, Pontiac GTO, Integra, RX7, BMW, Honda Civic, Mustang, Miata, MR2, etc. Some of these drivers are excellent drivers with decades of experience. Im still working on getting you guys the incredible in-car video.

Congrats Deus. We know the car is good; but to beat some of those guys in those cars, the driver has some input too.

Good question. I have no way to scientifically determine it, but i can tell you based on my butt dyno, which is very trustworthy that the car is much faster. It has more power, better braking, and better handling. I need to up my driving skills to keep up with this car now.
