6x9's question

I have '06 max, no bose, wanted to just upgrade the rear speakers on the deck to get better sound from the back. Question is if i do, will i need an amp to power the aftermarket speakers or is the stock head unit enough to do it? Tried to do a free search but didnt really see anything that answered my question. Dont really want to do the entire system at this point..yet. Thanks for any input.

obviously it would sound better if u had an amp going to them, but with that said, NO you dont have to have an amp.. What types of 6x9's u looking at... I would suggest pioneer... they have a few diff types for a decent price... u can also go w/ higher end 6x9' but of course its more money...

I would love to change the back speakers because they rattle like crazy when i turn up the sound to about 75%.

the max has a built in amp for the non bose system, i recentley changed my 6x9's and i was dissapointed, i got sony 3 way that are 45 watts, the bass was better from the stock 20w 6x9's. I would try some out by just wiring them in before going thru the trouble of removing the rear deck to change them out. i didnt test them first and now i am dissappointed but its so much trouble changing them i just left them for now.

miamifrost you will get banned for posting bs like that.

eh, you won't get much power. the stock 6x9's back there are 2 ohm nominal speakers. most aftermarket run at 4 ohms, reducing the power it'll see to half on what the stockers are getting. i'd definately amp them, or get an aftermarket head unit and power them that way.

oh, and i rather invest money for front speakers instead of something in the rear deck. you'll thank me later.

Infinity is 2 ohm!

I am in the process right now of possibly getting Infinity speakers throughout.

for the price of JL subs, you can do better and cheaper.

i would go with focal if those are your two choices. the tweeters on the mb quart set are fairly bright.

btw, there's an audio forum...you'll get much more replies in there.

Ok...so infinity's are two ohm speakers. If anyone has sat in the back seat of thier car (obviously not because someone else is driving you car)..but to listen to what rear passengers are hearing, im sure you've noticed that the highs and mids are almost non existant compared to the front seats. A nice set of 2way or 3way speakers would fill in that weak point, add some bass hopefully...right? All without breaking the bank doing a full install...

"some" cars are prone to defects......lol each brand has it's own ups and downs! But I am still most likely getting Infinity's all around!

I was online live with crutchfield and they said the infinity series are 2 ohm just like the stock rear 6x9's. And that if i go with a speaker thats 4ohm performance will suffer without an amp. SO even if i go with a diff brand i guess it should be a 2ohm. Anyone else have 2ohm speakers or 4ohm? and noticed the power diff (positive or negative) without an amp?

Do you need an aftermarket headunit in order to achieve the best sound possible? Reason Im asking is, I have a JL 12' W7 I would like to install with a Phoenix Gold 1000*1 amp. I really like the stock appearance of my Max.
