Big Changes for the '08 Max!!!!
Big Changes for the '08 Max!!!!
NOT!!!
Sorry, couldn't resist!
Not that anybody expected anything for '08...:

Guess my '07 must be a "Platinum Edition", 'cause it's got all those things! The only thing that would make something of that package is if it included the brighter finish on the wheels (like the '03 Titanium Editions).

This board has been well-aware for over well a year that the '08 Maxima would be EXACTLY the same as the '07. Why on earth would Nissan make any changes to a lame duck model year car that was upgraded just a year ago, and which will only be around 8 to 10 months before being replaced by a totally redesigned new 7th generation?
Someone mentioned the diesel. Not only will the diesel-equipped Maxima not be available in the '08 model year; it may not be available until the '10 model year Maxima, which will be out in about 25 months. That was made fairly clear by the Nissan release announcing the diesel option for the Maxima.
Sure, Nissan's ads tend to hype things a bit. All car ads do. But the important words are 'carries over'. That says 'no changes of consequence'.

So true. They way I read the press release, it says "identical" but they'll call the package something different and maybe offer a different color (like the Titanium). The '09 should be out in a little over a year.
So the 2008 includes a Platinum Edition, my 06 has those features so
unless you get cool Platinum badges like when they dropped the QX4 and loaded all the Infiniti features into the Pathfinder and called it the Platinum Edition

you guys freaked me out for half a second there because i just started investing in mods and i have about 10 months-worth of payments left on my 03, I was like holy #%@* they pulled a fast one on* oh wait, nevermind.
you dork :P
you dork :P
Ahhh, bluetooth isn't the only thing that the 07 and 08 has on the 04-06 models. Don't forget that the older models still have to deal with the hideous front fascia and ugly interior
...oh and the SE guys are missing out on the cool spoiler as well.
Bluetooth is one of those features that you don't realize you're missing until you have it

- Bluetooth
- Auto Dimming Mirrors
- HID Lights
- Auto-up windows
- Power tilt/tele wheel w/ memory
All of these are easy to dismiss as unnecessary gimmicks until you get used to them and then drive something without them - you miss'em in a hurry!

The one that really kills me is that no American brand of cars (that I know of) has auto-up windows. I recently drove a brand new Buick Lucerne V8 rental on a biz trip... not a bad car (for a Buick, lol) but I kept hitting the window button to close the window and it would just jump a half inch up and stop... WTF!? Must be the damned GM lawyers protecting me from myself again!
The other crazy thing on that Buick was the radio. The controls and display were so freakin cryptic and counter-intuitive. I'm an electrical engineer involved in audio/video equipment for almost 30 years, and I couldn't work the thing without pulling over and reading the manual. Can't imagine an ordinary non-techie ever figuring it out. Absurd!

I'm shopping for an 07 as we speak and was interested in the longevity of a Max but I guess you're a believer eh?

I have two now ('96 + '07) and I've had as many as 3 at the same time ('95 + '96 + '00/'03), but always at least one since I bought the '87 in August '86. Other than typical Clarion/Bose headunit problems ('95, '96, '00, '03) the only service issues I've had were starters in the '95 (gearset really just needed a cleaning but I didn't know any better at the time) & '96 (really was toasted). I've had way more problems than that in each American branded car I've owned, and they all have had significantly less mileage on them. The '96 still runs/drives/rides/looks like a new car, even at 165k miles. So yeah, I guess I'm a believer. I have also created another believer as well... now that my son (the primary driver of the '96) has finished college he is looking to buy his own Max - probably a 5.5G SE 6-speed.
That said, I am dissapointed that the 6G SE's have lost their "SE-ness". There was a time that being an SE actually meant something above and beyond any other Max. Now its essentially the exact same car as the SL (albeit with much nicer interior and wheels than the SL, IMHO).
While I've had no reliability issues to ever sour my experience with the Max, the softer direction that Nissan has taken the 6G Max SE is not one I personally want to pursue further, even at my "advanced" age. I'm afraid that the '07 might be my last Max unless Nissan changes their tune a bit. We'll just have to see what the 7G brings to the table.

This is my third Maxima. I've owned a 97 (which my oldest daughter drives) and a 89 (my middle daughter drives). They have all been wonderful vehicles. My girls drive the snot out of them and they still look and drive wonderfully.
ive had 3 maximas (look at my sig) and I loved each one more than the last. The 6Gen max did seem to take a less aggressive aproach at the car, but if you look closely at details, it does resemble the 350z in some areas (gauges, mirrors, body shape, taillight shape, rims, etc) thats something the altima cant do, but the 6gen definitly has the tightest body of all maximas. I love the car and its such a nice car to drive. The engine and transmission combo is UNBEATABLE by any means, as the engines are so smooth and manuals (2k2+ are great) So I plan on keeping this for awhile, I would not buy an 07-08 maxima because a manual is not offered. so if they dont offer manuals in 09+, i may have to settle as an 06 6MT as my next car and than Id be done with maximas (sadly)

Back to back to back....and so on.
Nothing but Maxes since 1987. And my wife has had a 240Z, two Pathfinders, and is currently in a 350Z. We've had neighbors ask us if we work for Nissan. My reply is no, but we should probably be in a commercial!
