Your going to have to get an aftermarket nav. I was pissed when i found this out because when i was buying my max the dealer said that the OEM nav could be added later if i wanted it (liar). Now i just use my cellphone as a GPS. Next car im getting is going to have OEM nav. If you get aftermarket there are some pretty good ones out there. My neighbor has the Pioneer Avic-Z2 in his max and he says it does more than the OEM nav at a lower price.

you could put a navigation on your car. you only have to get a new dash kit(double din) and of course the navigation screen or an indash. the only thing is that you have to take out the cd player and the cassette player to do this.

And if I'm not mistaken, a new windshield. I had to replace mine after it was hit by a rock, and one of the things they asked was if it had nav. Get a garmin or a tom-tom.

I have a '04 and didn't get Nav either but rather bought a Gramin 2720. I couldn't be happier with the decision. I use the supplied Mapsource problem and POI loader and do all my customization (adding tracks, POI, and waypoints) at my computer. Then download it to the Garmin. Very simple.

Also, check out the cost of map updates. My last update was $75. I read that some cars Nav systems run $200 or more for updates.

I don't have my Garmin on the dash. I bought a cup holder mount and it sits perfectly right by my side.

Can you snap a pic of your install. I wonder how it looks. Doesn't it distract you from whats on the road?

Pioneer D3, great price and a great unit....I've also heard that the OEM NAV isn't that great compared to aftermarket anyways...

True J, aftermarket units are much better. What equipment do you have specifically.

I have a Garmin 2720 as well and have it dash mounted. I prefer it up on the dash as I can keep my eye on it and the road at the same time.

Xoomer:
I can not post pics but PM me and I can email several to you.

Also, on your question about does it distract. Well, whether the GPS in on the dash, in the dash, or where I have it, you can not be fiddling with it while driving. It is no different than a CD, radio, cell phone, etc, if you let any of those distract from your driving, it could be a bad day. Personally, I worry more about cell phone users than anything else but that is a different rant.

Getting to a place is safe and simple, just set your destination (before driving or have the passenger do it), and listen for voice commands. You can take quick glances at the display when appropriate.

JG1, nice dash kit. Is your dash kit OEM? If not, where did you buy it?

Thanks.

I bought the kit from http://www.wooddashexperts.com/custo...cat=759&page=1 . I already had wood trim in my SL but bought the upgrade kit and just used certain pieces. I just wanted to use the kit where the wasn't any of the brushed aluminum (plastic).

Where can I find a double DIN dash kit like yours to install something like this? Also, what do you have in place where your information screen originally was?
