No ... There is no point...
Only time u would need ANY TYPE of proctection for a CAI=cold air intake, is if u were in 3 feet Plus of water...
Its more for looks in this products case...
Anyway... do what you want just my .02

I think it has a purpose and that is to stop your CIA from sucking in a whole lot of water, Its kinda like the better be safe then sorry and invest a few bucks in this rather then having to invest in a new engine. Although some say it works like putting a condom on your intake as I was told but, The choice is yours...

.........if you really think about it.........that thing would act as a sponge rather than a protector for the water. IT would soak water faster than the filter would and retain the water and make the intake suck it in quicker...imo at least.
Performance wise, I think it would reduce flow as well.

You guys are probably right. I know the instructions specifically said not for use during heavy water conditions. And the thing is routed down there right between the wheel and fender close to the road. Has anyone had any CAI nightmare experiences getting wet??

The filters job both OEM and CAI is to absorb moisture, the same way it filters dust from being sucked into the engine, during any wet weather just check you filter and it should be slightly moist not wet.
I know from past vehicles that during heavy constant rain if I opened my air box their would be water droplets on the bottom
