A month later the cancer came back and she died within 2 weeks. I don't really hear about how everything happens for a reason from her anymore.

Maxima racer,
Have you decided/told us what vehicles your kicking around? You may have mentioned it and I may have missed it, but I am definately curious. What's next for you, besides recovering?

I think the insurance is most likely going to pay the cost of the car. So if they pay the amount instead of replacing it than next option for me is a new G37 or a used corvette. So lets see what happens. Even if they decide to give me a car with same mileage(21000ish) i'd be happy. What a weekend. This kind of things surly changes your mind about life.

Man, glad your ok. It was not your day to cross over.
Some credit should also go to Nissan for building a cabin that can withstand so much. No praise to Goodyear for trying so hard to kill its customers.
I hope you are getting a full checkup. You don't want back or neck trouble to show up later on. And don't hesitate to see a specialist if you feel an emotional burden you can't shake.
Whatever your beliefs are, you owe somebody a big thank you and a big favor.

im looking more at the pic, and reading the thread again, i dont think the maxima held up so well, as lucky as he is for being virtually unharmed. I remember seeing crash tests of the 6gen and they said the front end holds up great but the side was weaker and didnt hold up so well. my only comparison would be that i work for a bodyshop and have seen a lot of cars up close that have been in bad accidents. we had a new bmw 328 that hit a pole at about 90 mph..flipped twice landed on the roof and caught on fire, weigh essentially the same as a maxima and the roof barely caved in at all.

Interesting you said this because a couple weeks back I attended the new 08 C Class MBZ event and they were touting the fact that their left and right side roof supports can (individually?) hold the entire weight of the car on top of it.

s klass, im not surprised those german cars are built so well, i work for bmw and i see how these cars are put together structurally, and looking at some japanese and american cars, sadly, dont have the same structual soundness. and ill repost working pics later

as everyone else has already said, that is crazy, and it's a good thing you walked away. it always sucks to see a destroyed max but hey, at least it wasn't a third gen
haha, just playin man.
edit: i flipped (just a flip, not a roll. landed on the roof) a 92 max at 75mph, destroyed the suspension on the drivers side and pretty much everything else on that side.....
then i flipped another 92 at 15MPH! F-I-F-T-E-E-N--M-P-H.......that time it rolled twice and didn't have a spot on the body that wasn't touched.....but it still ran fine. ;x
walked away from both, not even a scratch....

You can count you're blessings that you are alright! You are probabaly going to be different now....it might even be strange driving another car for a while. An accident no matter how bad has a dramatic impact on a persons mind from a psychological perspective. I used to have a 2002 Maxima GLE with a spoiler...In December 2003 I was hit by an eighty year old man who went straight through a traffic light at 50 mph without even hitting the brakes. I think he fell asleep at the wheel. After hitting my car like a top and rotating it 180 he continued straight in to an angled side of a building! It was 1 am about 2 weeks before Xmas. This guy was most probably driving back from a Xmas party as he was dressed up. He had a passenger with him who was wheel chair bound....an elderly man who ended up hitting the windshield and was bleeding from his forehead!. I nearly flipped out when I saw the driver get out of the car....he had trouble walking and used a cane! How do they let people like that even drive? There is no way that this guy could react quickly enough with his foot to stop in an emergency situation! The car he was driving was an Acura EL which is sold only in Canada I believe...it's basically a dressed up Honda Civic. My car was a write off as the engine bay was basically "gone". My front air bag went off and the smell got me out of the car in a hurry...lots of white powdery stuff. I was also very lucky as I did not even have a scratch. The old bast*** got off without a breathalizer as the cops took too long to get the the scene....the fire department got to the scene first followed by an ambulance followed by a cop who claimed he was off duty and only "filling in" and thus did not have the authority to administer a breathalizer! Finally when the right cops got there it was too late to do anything as these guys were on oxygen in the back of an ambulance. Today and always I will remeber that accident...I was very lucky to walk away...It took me a few months before I felt relaxed behind the wheel again....Just a normal process....
I hope that what ever healing period that you go through just remember during those "ups & downs" that you're ok and you will move on!

it does make you think a bit differently when you escape one of these. For me, it made me think about how quickly and easily I could have been killed "without ever knowing what hit me", as the saying goes. One minute driving home from work to the family, next minute...
I still occasionally drive past the spot where the dumbåss lady ran the stop sign and spun me into a concrete light pole... the pole still has the scars on it - at least mine have healed.
