What % tint looks the best

I have a 2007 Maxima SL with precision grey exterior and charcoal interior. I was wondering what % tint would look the best on the windows. Looking for your opinion.

I am planning to tint with FormulaOne's Pinnacle film unless one of you can suggest something better. I do not want any interference with satellite communication, radio signals, etc. The Pinnacle comes in 15%, 35% and higher.

I am from FL where the law is minimum 28% on the front side windows and 15% on the other three. So even though I would like 15% all over, I cannot do that.

Are you doing the tint yourself? If so, then please show pictures of your process!

I would say 35% all around, I really don't like seeing two different shades of tint in front and back; that's like seeing a car with different sized rims in the front compared to the rear, yes I know it's been done, C6 Z06 and new 350Z track edition, but I still would rather prefer the same "size," or shade for this matter.

No, I am not doing it myself. I wouldn't mess with a new car. Will 35% on the four side windows and 15% on the rear one look so bad? I wish I could see some car like that before doing mine.

I would not mix-and-match. I've never written a tint ticket to anyone that wasn't selling crack You shouldn't have too much trouble from most cops.

I'm also in Fl. I did legal limit all around on my new black max. sofloMx, you may not have written a ticket, but my GF got a ticket about hers, and her aftermarket lighting under her SUV. Strange laws we have here in Fl. She had a blue glow under her SUV and blueish licenseplate lights. 1st LEO gave her a warning that the licenseplate light can't be blue, but said nothing about tint/under glow that was blue. 2nd LEO gave her a ticket for the underglow and tint but said the licenseplate light was fine. Something about blue/red being unlawful if being able to be seen from front or back. But anyway, I'm not pushing my luck. I've never gotten a ticket in my life (38) and I'm not about to push my luck by having non-legal tint. SO, bb700092, take it as you want to, but not all LEO's are the same, better be legal than pay later and lose your investment in the tint.

Oh, I also did all mine the same %. I always thought different levels on cars looked a bit "dorky".

Just my $0.02

I totally agree with you. Thats why I am not going below 35% on the front side windows even though I wanted 15%.

35% is I had 5 percent all the way around on my old Impala. Never a hint of trouble. Chances of a ticket are very very very slim. Heck if it makes you feel better, roll them down when you pull up to a squad car.

I put MD state legal 35% on the front and 20% in the rear and 35% on the back. The 20% gives the whole car a darker look tint wise and I'm not breaking the law. IMO it's OK to mix the tint...

I have the formula one tint on my 06 max but instead of pinnacle I did the premiere 35% all around. I think that's a nice shade although I wish I would have done 20%.

Your max looks great

I thought that the Pinnacle is the only film manufactured by FormulaOne that does not interfere with the satellite communication, radio signals, etc. Thats what I gathered from http://www.formulaone.com/. Does your FM radio, cell phone, navigation system, etc. work well inside the car with the Premiere film? Since it is metallic, it might have interference.

Yep it all works. I have stock bluetooth and it works great. I dont have SAT but my regular radio stations come in fine with no interference. I also have a radar detector as well.

Dark interior with 35% will almost look limo, unless its mirror tint or metallic tint.

Good point. Thats actually what I want. Now I have no tint but it still looks a little tinted because the interior is so dark. After tinting, I do want it to look pretty dark, close to a limo. I don't think I will go with mirror or metallic tint.

CT laws suck. I have 35% on all 4 windows, and 20% on the back. Thats as low as we are allowed and even that is border line legal because of the slight factory tint on the windows which brings this even lower by about 2%.

Wow, I agree with fastmax....something must be up.

I was going to do the 35/15 combo on my Maxima, but I decided against it the days before going in for the tint...the mis-matched tint looks ridiculous, I ended up compromising and going with 20 all the way around. I am super-satisfied with my decision.

On a 105 degree day, the tint in conjunction with a windshield blocker dealy, the interior of my car is very pleasant to get into....not the unbearable heat I was used to in my previous (non-tinted) car.

do 25-30% for the back 3 and %35-40 for 2 front. this should make it look very nice depending on the color of your max. dont get it too dark though because you might get in accident at night. which i almost hit 2 people the other day.

Seriously though, if you gonna tint the windshield do not go that dark. I've got 50% on mine and it's still a little to dark. I'll go with a 70%-80% next time around.

As far as mixing tints, it's not bad unless the percentages are way off. It's even less noticable if the rear is the only one that darker. I'd do the 35%x4 and then 20-30% on the rear. Post some pics when you are done

Another thing to keep in mind is that when you have the darker tint, it will be harder to see at night in areas that are not well lit or lit at all. I had 15% limo on my last car and could not see in some areas at night especially around my house.

What is the color of your interior? What kind of tint do you have? I will not do anything to the front windshield. But I plan to do the rear windshield.

When I lived in Florida I had 20% tint all around, it looked great in the day but at night it became too dangerous for me, sometimes I could not even see people standing next to the road and at night during rain I sometimes had to roll down my windows to see what I was looking at!!!

Looking cool is one thing, driving safely is just more important to me now...

LOL... rolling down windows in the rain in order to see is not what I am looking forward to... and in FL we get very heavy showers quite often

BTW, if it is raining heavily (in hot & humid weather as in FL during summer) and I am running the air-condition inside the car, my front windshield gets hazy. The only way I could get rid of that haziness is by turning on the front defroster and turning on the heat at the same time. However, as a result, the people inside the car feel hot which becomes pretty uncomfortable if the rain goes on for a long time. Is there a way to get rid of the haziness on the front windshield and not feel hot inside the car?

The main reason for me getting the tint was for interior preservation. I really don't have any problems at night, but I'm not an old man....

My interior is black leather. I've got 20% all around. 50% on the windshield. "Metalized" tint to help reflect heat and the various uv rays even though the tint itself isn't reflective like a mirror. To Tehaviators point, the idea is to protect the interior, the 50% was installed to help protect the dash 24x7.

35% all around on your car will do nicely. My best advise would be make sure you find a reputable shop with a history of quality work. Not many things worse than a messed up tint job.

Finding a reputable shop is a big problem. I had started a thread on tint shops in the regional forum but did not get anyone's suggestion. I located a few shops from FormulaOne's website and talked to them. One of the shop's price seems to be reasonable (about $225) and comes with lifetime warranty on color (and hopefully labor too). I visited the shop and it was small with a couple of other small shops beside it. More-or-less clean. Did not get a chance to see any of their work though. Thats where I might end up doing it.

I live in cali where the cops are DCKS and i have not been f'd w/ yet... Knock on wood

You also don't live in Florida and when this was an issue for me I was in my 20's, WTF is your point dumba$$!!! If you don't give a **** about someone who has first hand experience about the dangers of too dark of a tint I wish you all the best of luck. Regardless of what you may think, everyday you grow older also, every stupid decision you make means I may still out live you!!! I just hope your interior doesn't outlive you, you stated your priorities...

Great looking car. I really love the tint. What kind of tint is it -- Llumar, FormulaOne, Huper Optic, ...?

I finally got my car tinted yesterday. It was FormulaOne Pinnacle 35% on all windows. It looks great, a little darker than the 35% because my interior is black. Also, I don't have any problem seeing through at night.

I have pictures and wanted to post them but couldn't. It seems I do not have the permission to post pictures. Do I need to post a minimum number of msgs before I can post pictures? How many do I need?
