I have reset mine twice in forty months - both times because the battery had been disconnected. Mine keeps marvelously accurate time.

edit - I do adjust for Daylight/Standard time, but only change the 'hour' at those times.

My fifth Gen Max had a clock that needed constant resetting - every few weeks I had to move it up a minute as it continued to run slow. But the '07 clock has been right on - I've not reset it at all other than for Daylight and Standard time adjustments.

it's very temperamental. If you don't drove it fast enough, the clock moves forward faster so you think you're late and increase speed. but it's not retroactive.

mine is about 10 min ahead.

Actually, it could be an Einstein relativity thing. Clocks slow down as speed approaches the speed of light...and we all know that Max's like to go fast!

I move my clock back every couple of months. Not a problem, I've accepted the fact that everything about this car is fast.

Mine is fast too. Sometimes it helps b/c I'm always running late so it gives me a buffer of about 5 minutes. Once it gets to more than 5 minutes fast I reset it to the correct time and it gains about a minute every 2 or 3 weeks.

Yep, mine has always run fast as well, very strange. My car (a 2004) was built Sept. 2003. There has been past discussion about this on the Org before, and I thought that we had determined that all non-Nav Maxima clocks seem to run fast (those with Nav had clocks that kept perfect time), but maybe there is something else to it?

lightonthehill, you have a 2005 non-Nav Maxima, correct?

Monotaur - I have an '04 (manufactured the last week of May 2004) SL with Driver Preferred, Traction Control, Vehicle Dynamic Control (stability) and full-size matching alloy wheel/tire spare. I do NOT have the NAV (having vigorously collected road maps since 1948, I prefer to 'do it myself' when it comes to routing).

That is about what my clock gains (no Nav). And I reset it when it is fast about 2 to 3 minutes.

4MySwee & NismoMax80 - Some of my most prized maps were found at flea markets in the 1960s and 1970s. Such as my complete set of gasoline maps of each western state from the mid 1930s. In mint condition. They are very interesting. For instance, in 1935, the Clark County Game Ranch sat exactly where we now have the Frenchman's Flats Atomic Testing facility.

Another reason I didn't choose the NAV package is because my wife and I almost always take back roads and longer routes in order to see things off the beaten path. As often as not, once we are in the boonies, she drives and I navigate, with various kinds of maps piled all around me, and magnifying glass in hand. I try to avoid 'Yogi Berra-like' instructions, such as 'if you come to a fork in the road, take it.'

For those not deeply into maps, I have no doubt the NAV package would be the preferred method of navigating unfamiliar places.

To sort of return to subject, I would like it if we had a clock in the Maxima that obtained the time at regular intervals from satellite. All we would have to tell it would be the time zone we are in. My cell phone and several clocks at home are that way.

My 5th gen's clock has this problem also. I never knew it was a wide spread problem with non nav cars produced before 2003. Anyway to fix it? like replace with a newer clock?

um this thread/forum is about cars 2004 and newer. so "before 2003" makes no sense

Mine keeps picking up a minute or so month. Finally got sick of it being fast and reset it. Now I'm late for everything...

Mine gains about a minute every 2 to 3 weeks. I just reset it when it gets past a minute fast. I would rather have it gain time than lose time.

I guess I'm going to throw everyone for a loop and say that my 04's clock runs slow. It is 20 minutes slow, but I also just bought it, so it may have been wrong to begin with. Maybe I'll just let it go and see if it catches up to the right time. Then I will know for sure.

Well, I replaced my car battery, and there was no change in the fact that the clock continued to gain about a minute every 3 weeks.

Same here. Mine gains 1 minute every 3 weeks of so. Thought it was just me but I guess not.
