OEM brake pads

My brake pads are just about done. I usually go w/ good aftermarket ones, but my mechanic said to stick w/ OEM so they are easier on the rotors.

I'll eventually get good aftermarket rotors/pads, but not ready to just yet.

Thoughts?

"so they are easier on the rotors?"

Get Hawk Street HPS pads and some Brembo or RTP zinc plated rotors.

From my experience, the OEM sucks. They fade under stop and go traffic making dangerous driving condition. If you don't want to spend $$$ for pads, go with Bendix IQ. I've always used this and they don't fade.

Easier on the rotors. Who said this? I want an address and social security number. I wonder if he'll be there when brake fade from the OEM pads causes you to plow through a 1999 Kia that pulled in front of you.

Hawk pads are the way to go...... not expensive at all... match it with the RTP's like what dan/prjct said.. and you will be VERY happy! good luck and post some pics...

With respect to the pad material/quality, that is a valid conclusion.

I want to get new rotors but my front brake pads are still in good shape, only 30% worn. I am curious, is it a problem if I use new rotors in the front but use the same old brake pads with them? I know people usually do rotors and pads at the same time, but is it mechanically bad to use my old pads with new rotors?

I'm not wanting to buy new rotors just yet and I was under the impression that OEM pads aren't as hard on the rotors. Is that not the case?

[QUOTE=Rich96;5970419]... my mechanic said to stick w/ OEM so they are easier on the rotors.[QUOTE]

Was he referring to brake pads or Maxi pads?
Kidding aside, was he suggesting to stay away from pad materials
such as semi metallic?

Sorta on topic. I use the PBR Ultimate pads from the group deal thread. Mine have left a NASTY brake dust on my rims. Anyone have a suggestion of a better pad?

The Posiquiets are legit, but all the ones suggested are good as well. I can only vouch for the Posiquiets. I got the slotted rotors as well and daddy likes. Buy something soon or you will regret it.

Unless you are doing slaloms through the city or something I don't think there is anyone here that does that much stop and go. I just did a brake job where I upgraded the rotors and kept the stock pads and the combo works fine. In fact over the last 3 years with the total stock set up I had a few times I had to go hard on the brakes to avoid hitting something and the brakes reacted beautifully. I would think OEM would be fine.
