Clearing amber lens
Clearing amber lens
Hey, anyone know if it is illegal to clear this lens? I have switchbacks installed, so it will still flash amber, but does the actual amber color have to be there all the time?
Thanks,
Jon
BTW, getting ready to take the plunge and paint the headlights... Figured I would clear those stupid lenses while I'm at it if legal. If not, I can just tint them.....
Thanks,
Jon

If I get a ticket and don't fix it, what happens the next time I get caught? I just don't want to have to open the lights up again... I just read the stupid NC requirements - it says that they have to display or reflect amber... I guess the safest thing is to just tint it out with the window tint spray paint I bought...
Thanks for the input...

Most cops wont pull ppl over for that...
Clearing the amber is illegal, but tinting it is not as long as the amber still shows. This is the type of ticket that would be added to a "shopping list" rather than being the source of being pulled over. Its like any illegal mod, if they are combined with other illegal mods -window tint, no front plate, loud exhaust, etc - then u increase the likelihood of being pulled over. Just make sure u have a valid license, insurance if required, and registration.
Here's the sticky on changing out the amber:

I've had Bat overlays for a few years with no problems...the amber does shine through a bit at night.

i have been pulled over 2 times for no front plate... one time my windows were up , and everyone has seen how dark my windows are ..
the other time they were down...
the time they were up the cop was real cool and was like... "...Get those plates on ASAP! Do i need give you a fix it ticket to remind you to get the plate on ?..." ME: No sir i will do it tomorrow HIM: And what about a reminder for that window tint? Me: Oh no sir, i will do that also...
Well i did the plate... I got a black frame that doesnt look TOOOOOOO bad... Any plate is ugly.. but i thouhgt the black would go well w/ the rest of the black accents .... But i didnt do the windows...
In ALL my years of driving... *8 big years* LOL.... I have never been pulled over for having no amber lense , and i have had them in ALL my cars....
maybe the are more strict there in NC ...
goodluck and post some pics
Actually, I am not so worried about getting pulled over... I work in the ER and all the cops know me and let me go
However, I have to get inspected every year for registration and I just looked at the list of things they check and the stupid amber reflector is listed. I just decided to go like Deus. I tinted them and blacked out the chrome in the headlight. So far, so good, but I have to put the lights back together today... Hopefully no fog issues!
