Why did you choose a maxima instead of a g35?

I'm wondering if I should get a maxima or a g35(x) and why.

I can get a fully equipped 2004 maxima for +- 20-21K CAN. G35 are approx 25 000.

So yes, it's a bit more expensive, but you get the infiniti name, rear wheel drive, etc.

Why did you guys get the maxima instead of the g35?

I'm just wondering, I still have not made up my mind.

Thx

G35 is smaller in size (7" in length and 2" in width), has almost the same luxury features as a fully-loaded max SL but more costly.

The only thing clearly superior in G35 is 50 more hp.

We drove several G35's when looking to buy a new (used) car. In the end the Maxima felt like it had a smoother ride and more room inside...

The 330HP is a G37 for 3.7L engine and not a G35.

2008 G35: 306 hp @ 6800 rpm (www.infiniti.com)
2008 Maxima: 255 hp @ 6000 rpm (www.nissanusa.com)

All 2008 G35 models have the same power. I think the above is true for 2007 models as well.

Current SAE standards:

2007 G35 = 306
2006 G35 = 298

2004+ Maxima = 255

Anyone got a calculator handy?

OLD SAE Stardards:

2004-05 Nissan Maxima SE, SL - 265HP
2004-05 Infiniti G35 Sedan - 298 HP (I think that was for manu)

Did you find that calculator?

Did you re-read post #1?

I reread the 1st post 27.76 times and still didn't find where the year of G35 was mentioned. It doesn't matter how much hp any other car has IMO. My car has what it has to the wheels, so in any case, arguing factory claimed hp number =

Bingo! 5 Star post. It's all about your needs and preferences. In those five categories I agree 100%, so I got the Maxima.

Yeah that guy was kind of comparing 2004 (and maybe 2005) cars so comparing numbers from 07-08 didn't make sense to me. Thats all.

NMEX you read post # 1 27.76 times. Does that mean that after 27 times you only read 76% of the thread and gave up?

Infiniti is a Luxury car anyway you look at it, Nissan is the junk Toyota passes on cause it would never go into their cars, I was safer at work with a car that no one knows, my boss has a BMW Alpine B7, and my other boss drives a Jet, my Nisson Maximo will never compare and I'll let them keep thinking that.

They probably hate how much I make, could only imagine the comments if I drove an Infiniti

Don't forget the HEATED STEERING WHEEL! I don't think that's available on the G35.

The main reasons for me were FWD, roomier cabin, and better gas mileage.

Maxima is roomier, much better looking. I think the G35 sedan front end is ugly.

My wife and I both felt cramped in the G35. The Infiniti salesman would not deal with me as well as the Nissan saleswoman did. We preferred the Maxima styling. At my age, I cannot drive during the cooler half of the year without either gloves or heated steering wheel. The G35 we tested did not have a heated wheel; the Maxima we tested did.

But, in all honesty, I have bought nothing but Maximas for 23 years, they have been the best cars I have owned in 58 years of driving, and I see no reason to change something that has worked so well for me.

Back when I bought in 05, I thought the Maxima was better looking, was $5k cheaper than the G35 and Acura, and it didn't require premium gas.

I didn't even look at a G35. I saw the '04 maxima and fell in love with it. No regrets at all.

Max / G35 same family, what matters in the end is how you bring it!!! Perfect example above ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I'm feelin' ya. The Infinity salesman suggested I head down to the Kia dealership. I really honestly felt my look/persona/finances at least warranted the Hyundai dealership.

Needless to say I was chagrined.

I too was comparing 6th Gen Max versus 1st Gen G35. It needed to be a 6spd which both models had. I felt both cars were equally featured on the basic stuff (ie. engine, safety, etc...). It came right down to the stock rims of each model's 6spd version. The Max's rims were like any other SE's which I liked. The G35 6spd comes with 5 spoke rims that I felt looked cheap.

I never test drove any Infiniti, just compared the G35 with Maxima on paper. However, I had the impression that luxury car dealers, like Infiniti, Lexus, Acura, etc. treat their customers much better than their lesser counterparts (such as Nissan, Toyota, Honda, etc.) From the posts I see above, my impression seems to be completely flawed

no, they treat you like **** at first. but if you can actually afford it, they kiss your ***.

conversely,
lower end treat you like gold to buy. but once you get one, well you feel like you're trying to buy the luxo brand

You're the customer. They treat you like crap, you walk; whether you're buying a Kia or a Ferrari. They are not doing you a favor, even if they say so.

G35 way too small for me. Plus I bought my Max new in '04 and the G35 new was too much.

Mack, leave it up to you to ask what is probably from this boards birth, the hardest question ever levied onto this here board.

Because of it's "difficulty" factor, I have asked the moderators to moderate the very sentences (one at a time...there is only one sentence) , that have shown up in unsuspecting computers such as mine and yours.

And I quote
"Infiniti is a Luxury car anyway you look at it, Nissan is the junk Toyota passes on cause it would never go into their cars, I was safer at work with a car that no one knows, my boss has a BMW Alpine B7, and my other boss drives a Jet, my Nisson Maximo will never compare and I'll let them keep thinking that.

I think I speak for all when I say...please help us help Mack.

LMAO! Cool & bb you guys are a riot! I just wasn't sure if he knew that Nissan makes Inifini or not, and also got the impression he was cutting on Nissan and saying Toyota was better. But alas......we may never truly know.

Anyways Maxima won for bang for your buck and sleeper image, I love my car and test drove an 05 SE back when they where 1st rolling onto dealer lots and then a year later I bought one without a testdrive, 1st time I actually drove it was home, told my salesman an 06 loaded SE with leather Nav and 6speed, my car took a month to arrive cause the lots where still flooded with 05, came in with everything but the 6speed and that was a hard option to find on the color combo I got, funny thing was between the time my salesman told me the car arrived and the time I got to the dealer, several people made offers on it

Nothing comes close to the Maxima in terms of price and options and an Avalon does not really excite me and a Camry, everyone has one and the Altima, it's most popular configuration in my area is nicely equipped with the 4cylinder.

I still see the Maxima as a stand alone car but competition is catching up

Only reason i got the Maxima over the G35 was there are no Infiniti dealers in my area. G35 is faster top speed and a bit quicker all around, and rear wheel drive handles different, but not alot of diff for the price.

1 reason only....I could not have gotten a comparable G35 for anywhere near the price I paid for my used '05. That's it!

If I wanted to spend 10K more I would have definately bought a G.

Thats cause it's direct target is the 3 Series, the Maxima is an affordable 5 series
