CVT FTW!!

Just kidding. I pray its as dependable as any regular 4/5 speed auto that's ever been in a Max and I can sleep well at night.

Is the tranny that they put in the same tranny that was there before?

I mean, is it a revised tranny, or they are just putting a new, crappy one in, that will fail just like the first one?

What about CVT? Any problems yet?

Its a new trany. I had the same question for the stealership as well. I didnt want it going out on me in another 30k miles.
He said they have fixed the problem that they came out with and should be fine.

But only time will tell.

I took it in to a friends shop to make sure it was a new trany.

Good, so theorically, once it's changed, it will not fail again.

At least thats good. So if I can get a 2004 with a tranny that has been replaced, thats good.

Hey all, I'm a new poster, but I'm without my 04 Max as it is waiting on a new tranny to come in by next week (hopefully).

Sounds like others have had similar problems, but mine started 3 days ago making a bad rattle in the driver's side. Turns out to be the differential on the driver's side.

I've got 62k and had the transmission fluid flushed about 5k ago and then this happens. I will give the dealer a call tomorrow to make sure it is a new tranny. I'm just glad I paid a little extra for the extended warranty, so it'll only cost me $50 for the work, luckily.

Has anyone that's gotten a replacement had any issues with it?

Since this sight will not allow me to post a thread, I will just post here hoping the right person will read it. Oh and the motor mounts, please lol, dont brings those up.lol. The trans in my 06 Maxima has acted funny for some time. At 29K, dealer changed trans fluid and filter. Now Im at 42K and it slammed either in to second or fith with the service engine soon light coming on. At the next red light it wouldnt go, so I dropped it into manual mode and it said 5th and just jerked everytime I try to switch gears and always said 5th. Turned car off and restarted, drove ok for now service engine light still on. A/T light never came on for a whatever reason. Anyone?

I think mine is slowly leaking transmission fluid. I can't see any drip/pools under my car, but I was under the front this evening and noticed some wet looking spots near the front of the car. I'll take a pic and post in a few.

I assume this is the transmission. I am not an expert...could be just me being paranoid.

What do you guys think?

I'm having the same issues with my tranny. If you go back in threads you'll see i posted about this on my '04 5-sp about 8-9 months ago. I've had it shift shock on me once or twice but mainly i get real hard shifts when cold then during normal driving i get jumpy 2-3 shifts. I've had her at 2 dealers now and both say its fine. BS!!

Make sure they have in writing everything even if it is a small complaint for legal purposes later. Start documenting phone calls and type something up and take it in to the dealer describing your situation. they might look at you kinda crazy but 3500 dollars for a tranny is crazy. CYA good luck. Also you might want to try disconnecting the battery for at least 15 min and then drive it around in "D" for a while real slowly to let the CPU learn your driving patterns. I had the same problem with my last tranny and they denied it being the problem and tried to pawn it off on the motor mounts and even say it's normal. then the car blew 2nd and 3rd gear slammed into 5th gear and until I got home and shut it off and restarted it I had only 5th. I restarted it and had 1st 2nd and 4th and 5th. 2nd was rough though.
Cant just drop off the pan like the old models...Have you looked underneath a 6th gen tranny lately ?

I have an 05 with 35k on it. Took it to the dealer and they did a trany flush and replaced one of the motor mounts.

They told it was fine and all it needed was the trany flush! The next day on the way to work same sh*t! Took it back and now they have had my car for 7 days waiting to get a new trany from Nissan.
Your lucky they replaced it for you... I ran out of warrantee so im paying for mines or looking for a 6spd swap...

I Dont post much on here but I did encounter this tranny issue and find some soultions but in the end the tranny will slip and go right around 70-80k miles...

I First change out all the mounts cause they were cause it to motor to jerk back.. at the same time I order the MMI and had the Mounts and MMI installed..

Second , we also came up with a shift shock, which the TCU would have to be reprogram at the dealership/

Thrid we change the fluid twice.. the torque convertor holds alot of it inside there so the first flush would only get part of the fluid out.. the second time around when we flushed it it was dark black..

Well this week I notice it shifter slower than usually... I check the fluid and its dark as hell.. im going to flush it out after Xmas.

Another thing to look for in the tranny that Ive also encounter...when your driving in Normal ( tiptronic owners ) and all of the sudden your stop at the light and you take off... I notice the gears get stuck in 5th ( you CANT SEE it when your in "D" ) so I shift into tiptronic only to read it in "5"th... I have to restart the car and the tranny reads back to normal so I dont take off from 5th gear in Normal driving.

Another member from down here in Miami had a 07 CVT , his cats were clog and somehow he end up blowing the tranny.. You may need to check the cats.. it could be too much pressure at one time for the tranny or a exhuast leak.

There also a possiable of the tranny pressure line which we have yet to look into... My tranny suck *** , its the reason why i havent quite gone as far as anymore mods than a intake and exhuast. It would be worthless to add n2o or turbo kit like I wanted to when I got the car a year ago.

I give up on the tranny .. mines at 71k now

I guess your a lucky one? Im friends with the Nissan head tech and the trannys has been on back order from the dealership down here..

He has 3 other guys that are UNDER warranty and they are still waiting for trannys to show up... My homegirl over at 6thgen Maxima just had her replace but it wasnt a new tranny.. it was just a lower mileage tranny , so I would double check on yours.

No transmission issues for me. Still shifts smooth after 72K. And I drive it pretty "spiritedly" (sp)

I gotta 04 and this is the most solid and reliable car I have ever owned. I blew up my old 03 impala because of my driving habits and I drive this car twice as hard. With 72 thousand miles on the clock, it has not been in the shop once and shifts just as smooth today as day one!!

Love this car,,,

I bet your car was trying to shift down to first after slowing down. You probably caught it between gears and it made a "thud" going down into first when you started accelerating. If it's not acting up, no worries.

BOTTOM LINE is that most transmission problems are with 04,early 04s ecspecialy! I have a 05 and have owned it since 05 and so far no problems! And thats with swaping 22inch wheels back to 18 inch everytime winter rolls around! I have had the fluid changed at the stealership once in early 06 and i must admit it made the car shift smoother and faster! SO imo just have the trans fluid changed every 30,000 or so and u should be fine! Considering u have a 05 and up! So to all those who read these forums because they are thinking about buying a maxima let me tell u this is a wonderful car for the money its fast, stylish and reliable and the next step up is a infiniti, lexus, benz, bmw! I didnt mention the acura tl because my sister has one and i drive it often and its a excellent car also but its pretty much on the same level as our maxis but smaller and a little harder ride!
