Got in an accident this weekend...

long story short, i was driving to the gym after i got out of work [chose the city roads b/c the highway was packed] and as i was going down a long stretch [with moderate traffic], a guy comes out of a parking lot [perpendicular to me] and t-bones me on the pass side. point of impact IMO would be mid fender in line with axle. on personal issues, im having some back issues which i'm seeing a doctor. so far, the visual estimate is at 5k. the tear down isnt til next week to see the hidden damages.

my question is what should i check for before i accept my car back. some people have told me to get the engine and tranny checked out and obviously the alignment.

any suggestions?

Oh man, that looks painful. I'm sorry this happened. I would never want to see my car like that. Especially right before Christmas, with all the traveling and family visiting you.

You might want to try a 2007 front end on it. They're replacing most of it anyway, why not get a fender, hood, bumper, and grill off a 2007?

There they are again...the VULTURES. Seriously, some have no soul. But I guess if you add a few chuckles at the end it's okay, right?

Glad your okay man. It actually doesn't look that bad. She'll be alright in no time.

Im assuming this is going to be handled by an insurance co?

No 07 pieces for you...

They will be telling you what you will get, not the other way around.

+1 on what kc said.. ... unless you get a few estimates and then they cut u a check of the AVG's... other than that you can upgrade...

as for the things to check, i would say frame damage is always good to test/look for ...

good luck and keep us posted

Just offer to pay the difference in the price per piece. The prep and install will cost the insurance company the same whether its an 04-06 front end or a 07+.

i got the 07 stuff covered :-), shouldnt be too much extra to pay. should i worry about drive train issues as well? maybe im thinking too far ahead when i get the car back. so far without the teardown, the ins co estimates about 9 bus. days.

Most ins. companys wont look twice at "aftermarket" parts. Just because their factory pieces, they dont belong on an 04-06. They wont warranty anything like that.

Have the at fault party cut you a check and fix it yourself.

Were you fiddling with your radio or something, cause' if you are a l33t driver, I'm sure that you could have swerved out of the way in time.

Man I feel your pain, but honestly your damages look worse than mine. I had a little incident this week, my bumper and grill are cracked and my hood is not that bad, but needs to be fixed not replaced (I think).

I do have a question though. Does the 07 grill and bumper straight fit into the 06 or do you have to do more changes like changing the hood also? I'd love to get the grille and bumper. My insurance co. is involved, but I should be able to work something out with the repair shop.

If the 07 bumper doesn't fit straight out, how much is the RLM bumper and how hard is it to get? Would the S4.1 grill fit in it?

projmax, i wasnt able to see the car come out of the parking lot becuase there was a h2 and i believe a f350 blocking the view. right when i saw his car i cut left but that wasnt enough. anymore i wouldve nailed the median.

picture this:

heading north on a straightaway approaching a stop light ...a guy fails to yield going west coming out of a parking lot in respect to my position. also traveling north was the h2 and the truck [f350?]. i am assuming he couldnt see me over those 2 vehicles and came out of the parking lot like a bat out of hell and expected to make it but nailed me instead.

Good thing your ok bro....

Makesure you get it fixed at a approved Nissan Shop so you can get the actual OEM stuff replaced

Honestly you dont have to worry about what is working or what yet because the shop should give you a minimum of 1 year gurantee on the work. Please dont quote me on that though because I went to a certified Nissan center after my wreck and thats what they gave me.

The only issue I had was that they did not replace the freon which they did when I took her back free of charge.

Good luck bro and cant wait to see the Max back on the road.

Dang eK9aT10pSi, sorry to hear that. Some fool almost took my front end off yesterday when he ran a red light in his SUV at like 45mph. People were driving crazy yesterday. How fast were you guys going when it happened? Definitely get the drive train checked out real good. Hope your back feels better too.

I already ordered mine. The only thing I am not sure nor have I researched yet is where to get HID fog lights from.....

EDIT: And oh yeah, keep in mind you will need to shave the bumper a bit - as Majestic has done......

thx for the link. hmmmm, im thinking if i want to do that body work ... with this bumper, does it look level on the side for the ppl that already have this bumper? if i dont get this, ill most likely do the 07 deal.

FYI, with the '07 bumper you need to do a few contour adjustments to the hood. I just found out the other day, but I want to keep mine more stock.

I do like the RLM bumper though, it looks beefy

Your reaction was exactly like mine initially. Why go thru all the extra work. Then I started looking at the guys who have done it and decided to go for it.

As with most bodykits - there will always be minor adjustments that need to be made. Of course you are not OR at least I am not going to do the shaving myself. Will have a professional do it.

Take a look at the guys who have these bumpers, they look hot and I think it is worth the extra tiny bit of work

EDIT: By the way - the bodyshop quoted me $250 to install and paint the new bumper. Not bad (I think).

I have never attended a South FL Maxima meeting - but Skep and Nismo1o1 just invited me a few days ago for a meeting that is happening in March. By then I should have the new bumper on and will definetely go. As I said I have never been to one - but they say it is fun. You should come too. I believe they said the meeting takes place in Markham Park......
