The AT Replica Ebay Grill

Some of you guys have asked about it so here it is in detail. I have not seen the real AT grill in person so I cannot comment on the differences.

Ordered on the 13th and it got here today all the way from Hong Kong.

It's made from chopped fiberglass and comes primered black ready for paint. The mesh is painted gloss black. The quality is pretty descent. Pretty much like any FG body kit. The mesh is held on with metal tabs fiberglassed into the frame.

Did a quick fit check to make sure it fit ok. Overall, the grill fits fine. I think the bottom portion isn't a perfect match to the bumper but the sides and upper portion fit great and everything lines up. The pics show the worst of it. Standing directly in front of the car the grill looks fine.

The bottom center portion could be trimmed a little to make it look a little nicer but it's really not all that bad. The pics make it look worse than it is. Note that the grill is just sitting in it's location. No clips are holding it in (in the pictures) so it may be slightly better once clipped in.

At less than 1/2 the price of the AT grill I'm willing to overlook the bottom portion. I think it looks way better than the EG Classic grill that was on the car when I bought it.

Considdering the price, I would say I'm fairly happy with it. Aside from the bottom portion; the grill is nice. The quality is good and finish is ready for paint.

Hope this helps some of you decide whether or not to get one too!

Ditto. Nice write up and pics. I'm like you, I like the AT grill but just couldn't afford it at the time. Maybe later this year for me if I have the funds, but it's probably either that or the Cattman Y-pipe. (I'll be going with the Y-pipe).

So I assume you are going to have painted to match. Does it look like the mesh grill is removable or do you think the tabs would break off? As far as the bottom part goes, could you sand it down to shape it a little?

All in all, looks pretty good for half price. Post of some final pics once it's painted and installed.

It looks identical to the AT grill. The mesh though is actually glued onto the grill instead of being held by tabs. And the mesh in black is also powdercoated. Looks good though.

I was looking at the AT black mesh grill but found out from AT that it doesn't fit the 08 Max. So I'm left with buying the one off ebay or continue searching the web for another black mesh grill.

Pretty close to AT but its different. The sides of frame are thicker and the bottom part has like a lip on its own. The bottom parts also doesn't sit well on the bumper.

AT grill has its own problems so its really a toss up.

If you ask me, I'd go with RL grill over the two just mentioned. There were some listed in the GD section right after I invested in AT and I was surprised that there was no interest. I bought one for my brother's max from a member here and its just way better. The frame is thinner and the mesh is 100 better and its curved properly.

That grill looks great. I bought the AT grill, and I think yours fits better than my true AT grill fits. Mine rubs at the top two corners when the hood is closed, so when the hood is open, you can see where all the paint rubbed off. My mesh is glued on - not sure if that is better or not. The nice thing about the tabs is that you can take the mesh off if need be.
For instance, something must have hit my mesh (possibly my 2 year old son) and I have a very small ripple/dent in it on the right side, only visible from the sides. With your grill, I could take the mesh off and work it out. Mine is stuck... Anyway, I wish this option had been available before I blew all that money...
Heck, maybe I will get one of these - I like the fit better and probably need a new grill now anyway...

Looks good, much better than stock. I might look better if you were able to install a piece of black filter material behind the grill to really black it out.

Mine rubs on the corners as well. I decided to get rid of mine though.

I saw it on eBay weeks ago, considered it and then had my little Turnpike incident; was looking forward to convincing my wife to get this grille!

Anyway, I'm moving to an all '07 bumper-grille since I don't have to pay all out of pocket for it; looking forward to it

I doesn't match because it's black primer, not paint. It wasn't even mounted when I took the pics. I intend to get it painted and then install it next month when I get back from an out-of-country business trip.

With the tabs holding the mesh, do you think they could be bent to change that mesh for something a little stouter?

I had that issue as well and told the brothers at AT (or friends, I dont know). they said that this shouldnt be an issue. i had to put two screws further lateral on the taps to get it to work properly and hence no rub when hood closed. Seems like for >$200 there should be no fit issues. Ahhh America.

Yeah, AT is not the fastest with shipping their grills, but....

You get a finished product that you put on the car in no time. No need to look for a paint shop, get quotes and finding a day to get it done. If it wasn't done for me to begin with, it would probably still sit in the basement unpainted next to the roof wing, fog retrofit, bunch of LEDs, engine mount, rear calipers and I don't remember what else. This may not apply to everybody, just a thought.

Also, inspect your grill when you get it because even though their packaging is superb, their paint matching leaves a lot to desire.

As to the comment left by others. I would have to agree that the clips are better then permanently attached mesh. The mesh on my AT is not exactly straight anymore (aluminum is very soft, very) and raplacing it doesn't seem like an option.

I see both almost every day and I'll say it once more RLM grill beats them all, hands down.

Xoomer - not sure if you even got to read my previous post - but after I got done typing it, I checked the ups site one last time and there it was - showing the grill on transit. So finally! After more than a month I will have it!
I deleted the post though.....
