y pipe cracking?

y pipe cracking?

i was under the car yesterday and i noticed the y pipe which is factory was cracking and i don't mean cracking literally i mean there are pieces of steel, paint, or whatever is on the outside of the y pipe is missing. looks like its chippin. im not a mechanic or nuttin close to it but should i be worried?

I'd have to see pics to be able to say much, but I'm going to *guess* that's just a coating or part of the heat shield coming off and wouldn't worry much about it.
but get some pics and let us take a look.

while taking pics from the minor accident i thought it would be a good idea to take pics of the y pipe i mentioned a while bak. heres the pic

Mine seems to look like that and I dont really see anything wrong with it, but lets wait for a second opinion...

Yeah I looked at a pic of my OEM and doesnt look like yours at all.
Could it be a temp issue or something loose causing that?

Thats normal rust and I think the 2 pieces are 2 separate heat shields or something. Nothing to worry about, mine looked like that when I pulled it off. Here is mine next to Cattman's:

Yea thats what I thought it was, it's normal. Also the other piece you see is the heat
sheild don't worry about it. all though the heat shield may start to rattle if it gets loose, but you can just take it off.

Think it would cause more problems down the road removing the heat shield though? ANyone running without the shield?

Exhaust flows better to make more hp/torque.

I do and the gusset holes are welded shut. The heat shield that was bothering me was on the manifold though and not the y pipe.
