Looking to buy an 06 but can't decide auto or manual please help.

I have a 04 now that is a 6spd. I do love it. I am going to practically give it to my nephew for a nice price. Les than 10 gs. So I am looking to replace it. I do enjoy the stick but I am considering an auto. Maybe it has to do with me being 30 something now and I want to just kick back and drive. Does anyone know how much it is to replace a clutch? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

so your getting a maxima again? sell your car and get a WRX this time. a blue one with gold rims. an 04 and 06 are pretty much the same thing. anyway i would get a stick cause i have stick and i love it. also stick shifts have better transmition and are better in gas. and i dont think is more than 500 to replace the cluch. never replaced a cluch... knoc onthe wood

I found a black on black fully loaded no navi with 33K on it. The miles are kind of high for me. They are asking 17800. It is clean. Nice car.

Yeah I know they are. I found about 5 in my area. I just don't want to get a auto and then kick myself a week later. I never drove that auto stick. Is it any fun at all?

Even though I think 6spds may be more fun to drive, it is a pain in heavy traffic.....

if it looks and drives like new then 33k is not bad if it's beat then pass, but it was probably someone who just racked up highway miles on it

Man atleast you get to decide my wife broke a bone in her left foot( car accident) 2 years ago and it never healed right so she can't drive a standard anymore. All we had before were standards but know it's only auto's.

I have a 6spd and love it. The only thing I would consider if its auto is the CVT which is 07+. I drove a 08 altima 4 banger with a CVT and it was suprisingly responsive and was fun in manual mode. You have to drive one to know what I'm talking about.

If you love the 6spd, you will likely miss it if you go auto. Auto feels nice for a while, but it just can't give the driving experience stick does.

I have an 04 Max with 6 speed and I love the car. I don't think I could do auto. My first post here BTW.

I have an 04 with 6sp as well and I have to admit that some times it is a love/hate thing to row the gears, but usually it's all love. Pretty sure an auto would bore me. Plus, I see a manual as being somehow more dependable to last longer. That's probably just due to my having grown up with chevys.

One other thing to consider is what number and type of passengers you will be carrying. If I had known how little my wife actually liked to ride in a manual car versus smooth luxury I might have steered toward an auto.

OBTW, I also had to scour the area to find a manual, which is what I wanted from the start.

Get the auto

The CVT is pretty sweet. I enjoy it more than I though I would. Makes for a nicely refined ride. + you don't need to worry about changing clutches.

Buying a used Max, you are pretty much dependent on what is available in the used car market. I've heard that Nissan was only making 10 to 15% of the Maximas with the 6-speed, so an 06 with one may be hard to find.

If you can find one, you should get it -- the trannie is much more dependable. Look at the auto trannie threads on this site listing all of the problems. Don't see those problems with the 6-speed.

As for age, some of us old-timers never get tired of shifting -- and controlling the drive train. I don't like a computer picking what gear my vehicle is operating in -- I can see what is coming better than a computer and pick the proper gear. I am 68 years young and want nothing but a stick -- have one in my pickup truck as well as the Max. Will have to find another car brand that offers a stick when it comes time to replace my Max.

I have the 6sp, some peeps will tell you that the auto is faster....... but they have been hitting the crack pipe a bit too hard if you ask me.

I use my 6sp at the track, (Road Course, Technical, and AutoX) and I have not been beaten yet by any VQ powered car. Maybe thease guys are talking about 1/4 times and like 0.0133 second differences, but hey if I wanted to waster gas on 1/4 mile times I would go hit my local highway on ramp LOL

Love my 6sp, tell me if your AUTO without a serious HD tranny cooler and some tranny work could handle this all day?

Get what you want.... I think both are good for what they are.

Get a stick if you want to shift, get an auto if you dont...

I didnt want to. But thats just me.

I've got an 08 SE, My first Max and I'm amazed at how much fun it is to drive. I didn't have the choice, but the sport shift or what ever it's called is fun to drive. For some reason though I seem to get better mileage if I stay out of it .
