New Head Unit

My CD player died so I decided to replace the entire head unit.

I purchased this for $169 shipped from Crutchfield. As you can see the unit comes with a new audio panel, attenna adapter, and everything you need to get hooked up. The directions were superb!

This head unit has front "aux", "usb", and plays MP3 or WMA formats.

Here it is installed. The improvement in audio quality is absolutely amazing!!!

Looks good! Props to you for doing it yourself, most people would go to a shop to get it done even though it's easy. Did you have to pay extra for that panel?

$169 gets you everything (including panel). The directions from Crutchfield are awesome. Even the night time illumination dimmer works.

No I kept the factory speakers and now they sound 5 times better with this new headunit. I'm extremely satisfied. Wait till you hear it Rick.

The sound is fantastic. Way cleaner and way louder. Even without the Sub turned on it sounds like I have a sub in there.

I am confused about the changer statement as well as the Camels???

does the stock cubby hole door hit the dash kit? i had to dremel down the plastic a bit so that the door can swing open and shut freely.

now you need to upgrade the speakers

Not at all. The only thing is that it is not color matched.

The stock speakers sound way better/good but what do you recommend?

The mid-bass has really come alive with the new headunit.

The main thing I will miss are the steering wheel controls.

Hmmm, this looks intriguing. Anyone have experience with this nifty device? http://www.activetuning.com/products/multiple/PESWIX/

Nice head unit COOL...In my previous 4 cars i've had Kenwood's, 3 jettas, 1 Annv max and i really like the Kenwood's. I take it that you have the Bose stock speakers? Did you have to install an extra amp with using the new unit or was there enough juice from it to power the bose speakers? Do you have junk in your trunk too?..

Sorry I meant the cd changer from the bose. Also, the Camels were in reference to the cigarette lighter you have that doesnt come stock. You can get your steering wheel controls with the PAC SWI-JACK (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-HiJacEq...x?I=127SWIJACK)

I have the "non Bose" speakers. The original seperates up front sound fine to me. But with this new headunit I'm sure I'll destroy them. Then I'll shop. The new headunit combined with the new wiring harness makes good use of the factory amps. Yes I have a 10 inch woofer in the trunk to add a little low punch/extension. This also allows me to continue to put junk in the trunk.

I did not have Bose (yes I am ashamed). Again, just plain oem system.

Nothin personal dude but not a fan. I think the unit looks kinda small for the car. What did you do with the cd changer?

Well you can't please all of the people all the time but your feedback is appreciated. A double din with silverish colors or darker less shiny colors would be better for sure. You're right it isn't optimally perfect for the car looks-wise.

You are welcome to have my old non CD playing headunit. There wasn't any changer (multiple CD player)to begin with if I understand you correctly.

Did I mention that it plays "WMA", "MP3", "USB", and anything with a "audio out" and sounds 5 times better? Great sound shaping, (3) 4 volt pre-amp outs, and a whole host of other features.

Total cost = $169

Hey, that looks sharp. After reading your post I will be doing the same to my car. I have been looking for something like this since I bought my Maxima. I hated the fact that the stock system didn't come with an mp3 player and aux input.

Do yourself a favor and get it through Crutchfield, and get the most detailed, complete instructions. And of course EVERTHING you need to get the job done-all for one cheap price.

Again, you'll be amazed at the improvement in sound quality.

And thanks for the complement.
