Need Gauge face restore

Sup guys,

I'm hoping one of you can help me out with my gauges. I went to a car wash and they detailed my car (i usually wash and detail my car myself, but was on the road this day) and when i looked at my gauges i noticed they had a discolored looked to them. Anyone that wear glasses would be familiar with this, it's like a anti glare coating on the gauges was wiped off in some areas.

Does anyone know what i can use to restore this? Check the pics below.

Thanks for the help guys.

daaaamn what'd they use sand paper?

my only guess would be you might be able to get away with some polish/compound. but i highly doubt thats going to fix those monster scratches.

id go back and complain.

I would try some of those products that eliminate scratchs from headlights.... Scratch X is one of them (I think).

i think it might just be residue from whatever they used to clean them. kinda looks like the finger print oil stuff when i touch my glasses

try using some glasses cleaning solution it should take it away. the scratches wont be gone though

I heard once that trans fluid actually can fill small scratches in like the safety coating on glass... maybe give that a shot..

Same thing happened to me, but only on ONE guage, they used armor all or something and it took that finish off. They're not ACTUALLY scratches, it just looks like it. I don't think it can be repaired, let me know if you find anything that works..

Yea, you're right Whitem1ke. It's not actual scratches, but a discoloration on the lenses. I think Nissan put a anti glare coating on those lenses and whatever those douchebags used on the lenses f'ed up the coating.

Try duragloss plastic polish if you can find it (i bought it at car quest). I am a detailer and bad detailing can really f'up your car. I do know from my max that the coating is very figity. Also 3M plastic Cleaner and Polish used in succession would be a good thing to try also (NAPA). If those dont work I can give you other options

Hey thanks for the advice man. I'll give the 3m plastic cleaner a shot and see if that works. Do you think strauss carries that?

Make sure if you get the cleaner you get the polish too. Also get microfiber towels as they are 20x softer than cotton ( which is why theyscratched it in the first place most likely)

You could try Plexus. I clean my gauges and all things with clear plastic with it. It does reduce the fine scratches for a while till it wears off. Every couple weeks you have to hit the gauges and info screen with it. But by that time they're dusty anyways so its no biggie. Works well to shine up the headlights/taillights for when you want your ride looking its best.

Hey ILL...I did the same thing to my guages about a year ago. The only way I was able to correct it was to actually take the product I used (glass cleaner with ammonia) and continue to use it on the guage until all of the coating is removed. What you are left with is crystal clear again, but the purpleish coating is gone and therefore a bit of reflection is now seen inside the guage but I dont even notice it now. I had to do it to my speedometer and my tach. The other one wasnt so bad but it could also use it.
Theres a small tradeoff with removing the anti glare but its alot better than thosescratches IMO. Get a strong windowcleaner and rub it all off with a cloth.

at first, i thought that they may have used a rag with dirt/sand on it (as if the rag was damp and dropped on the ground) to clean the guages.

that blows though.

I seriously think trying all the above mentioned products to restore the scratches are a waste of money because they are designed to fix plastic, the problem here isnt the plastic its the anti glare coating over it. Just spend sometime removing it all and you wont notice a thing.

Same thing happened to me, using Plast-X to try and clean up my gauge caused it. Same exact problem anti-glare coating got takin off....can't really notice it except in direct sunlight then its a bi*ch. Eventually I want to purchase a new gauge cluster from e-bay and just replace the cover portion if possible. Good luck....I feel your pain!
