Brake help

Ok help me out people. I need to get front and rear brakes for my 04 se. Now I don't race, i typically drive my car to work and back. I was thinking of getting the slotted brakes. Any web sites to get a good deal from? Any opinions on brands of styles? Any help will do, thanks

if you dont race, why get slotted rotors?

If your going for looks, i recommend drilled. they stand out more than slotted rotors.

But if you really want slotted, get powerslot slotted rotors. i had those and and no problems for 2 years. they held up good and went through 1.5 set of brakes pads.

didn't realize there was a difference between slotted and drilled. I would really just be going for the look. So drilled is better. Any ideas on brand or place to order?

Function>form...

Blanks will provide the best braking performance paired with some Hawk HPS pads.

There are a few vendors in the G/D section that sell these items. Brembo blacks or RTP zinc coated blanks + Hawk HPS pads=golden

We have the Hawk HPS pads and Power Slot Slotted rotors listed here - http://forums.maxima.org/group-deals...-shipping.html

Those are the most popular for the Maxima and they are great quality.

I have been through drilled/slotted, OEM, and RTP blanks with, EBC, OEM and Hawk HPS pads respectively and am unable to find a combination that will keep the rotors from warping after 5,000 miles.

I would probably recommend blanks as other have said with a softer pad as i've read and been told that the aftermarket pads that are offered are too hard for the rotors for our vehicles.

Then again, this is what I have been told and I don't have any evidence otherwise to support it except for the fact that I have yet to find a good combination.

A proper break-in would greatly reduce the chances of getting warped rotors...

+1
it took me 3days to break in my rotors (sloted)
ive seen some drilled ones create rust after some period of time(i guess depending on what brand/quality you get)

I have powerslot rotors and Hawk pads.
it takes about 2-5minutes of driving to heat up
but if you go and brake really quickly within that period of time, it just slips. but once it heats up it has so much power.

slotted is to dissipate heat better/ move brake dust away
im sure the drilled does the same(just think they're pointless for drilled)

you can get real JDM with it and get the 350z non brembo project Mu pads
not sure on how they perform but their rotors sure as hell cost a ton of money

I just recently went back to the OE setup. I had a situation that forced me too. When I get the itch to upgrade my brakes again I'll probably get the Brembo blanks with a one-step above OE pads like EBC green stuff pads maybe. Since I don't race I have no use for the slotted/drilled.

Same as some of the other posts have mentioned.

Yeah i've heard that too ... There are twelve different definitions of the term though. Nothing has worked for me. I think something else is going on with the braking system but i'm not ready to tackle that till i'm done with the suspension. Endlinks will be here next week then i'll delve back into the brakes. I have some techna-fit lines sitting in a box and I need to replace the rear rotors and brakes and get the fronts resurfaced. Then i'll once again examine this 'break-in' thing you speak of.

As far as me driving the car, I drive it like in the commercials. Isn't that how it's supposed to be driven? It's getting bad though once again and I need to have the fronts resurfaced and have the pads checked. After that it's ok for a few thousand but reverts right back.

If you are not going to see the track forget about the drilled or the slotted or both. I have had the RTP+EBC setup for about 5000k now. The braking is awesome. You will probably not get better performance than this setup, unless you go BBK. The only issue, which I hate is the loud noise of the brake system and the rough feel to the brake pedal. In my opinion if you dont do track time, there is no need for the fancy brakes. I will be changing to RTP blanks and OEM pads in the front. Also I think the EBC pads are too thick and big for our calipers. Its edge sits out a far distance from the egde of the caliper. I hope that makes sense. I will not recommend any of the performance brake systems for daily driving.

The only thing that sucks are the pads...get some Hawk pads paired with stock rotors and you're golden. The stock pads are what usually cause the rotors to warp because the pads are made of crap material

My brake setup is fine, no longer OEM, only complaint is I would like a stiffer pedal but next go around I'm the exception and need a BBK, I accelerate when I should be braking, I want to pass people going down hill and still be able to stop at the stop sign

What about rotorpros? Aren't they supposed to have some pretty good rotors?
