Code P0455

I was driving around 40mph and suddenly hit the brakes, and right when I hit the brakes my SES light came on.

I got it checked yesterday and it is P0455 EVAP Control System Leak (Large)

Both the AutoZone guy and my mechanic said that it's nothing to worry about performance wise or how the car will act. It will just leak out gas vapors which will result in a failed emissions.

My gas cap is tight and I will be un-plugging the battery soon, but any other remedies to look for besides replacing the canister?

thanks,
dan

are you over the mileage for your emissions warranty? 7yrs/80000 or something like that? if not who cares just go to the dealer and make them fix it.

Clear the code, if it's a real problem it will come back...

No warranty of any sort...

My tech was saying that it's the EVAP solenoid or canister?

What's with these cats I'm hearing about...?

I disconnected the battery and the light went away, but when I womped on it a little bit, the light came on.

FYI. cats have nothing to do with evap emissions guys. your tech is right but for other people with an evap leak "SMALL", it can sometimes be a a loose gas cap or a bad rubber seal in the gas cap. it can also be from corrosion on the filler neck and teh cap wont seal tight. these are just more common examples i have noticed from customers coming into the shop i work at. this is not the be all to end all evap answer.

Does the EGR valve have anything to do with it? I ask because I had to disconnect it from the UIM when I was doing my SSIM and then putting my OEM UIM back on.

EGR shouldn't matter, hook up a smoke machine to the EVAP port and try and find the leak. A good scan tool should be able to turn the solenoid on and off for testing purposes. Without going throught that it's a guess as to which part is bad.
