Shimmy problem in 04

My 04 SE has an annoying shimmy between 45-65mph. The steering wheel shakes from side to side, very noticable. I have brought it in for an alignment and they balance all of the tires....still does it. I have read some posts on this that seemed to be from 2003. ANyone have any updated info on this problem? Thanks

A bad shock can also cause this at that speed more so at 65mph.

I took mine to a firestone in the area that has a "Hunter" road force balancer. You might have to call a few firestones to find one that has it...

Still threads on the silly shimmy huh. Get the rotors cut or replaced, get a roadforce balance, and alignment and anything else that has to do with your wheels. And even after all that, the shimmy will come back.

I personally think a lot of people just said screw it and got used to it. Either that or it's the OEM wheels at the bottom of this. Not sure if many with aftermarkets experience the shimmy but that was one reason I got rid of my Maxima and I don't miss that shimmy at all.

Actually a few folks discovered that the piece of molding up under the front bumper can hang down and exaggerate what would normally be a slight shimmy. Double check that it is mounted snuggly against the underneath of the car.

My shimmy was the rotors and it didn't shimmy while braking. You might have run out or a warped rotor at the hub.

Ok, so I broke down and took the car to my local Nissan stealership to have them diagnose the problem and check to see if the TSB was ever performed on this car.....I was told after the car was there all day that I have three bent rims which is causing this shimmy. But would it then shimmy at all speeds, not only between 45-60mph and why would it stop shimmying when you turn the wheel to go around a corner? They re-balanced the wheels as best they could they said and it still does the same thing all for $95. Their recommendation was to purchase a new set of rims for $1300.

Depending on how bad the wheels are bent, they can be repaired.

I had a bent rim, and I think I paid well under $100 to get it fixed.

Lots of guys I race with use MC wheel. Its probably better to find somebody local though.

rotated and balanced my tires and shimmy is very minimal...minimal! but still there here and then...i think its an combination of cheap tires [riken raptors] and an bent rim.car has 28k 06sl...really hope i dont have to "adjust" my rack. i didnt spend all that money on this car to have to fiddle **** with it. If i wanted that i would of bought an ford or gm....dissapointed in nissan kinda scary how common this shimmy is

Just bought an 04 Maxima SE and will just deal with the shimmy. If I have any other problems, I know what forum to turn to.

Its not cheap tires, as a matter of fact I went from GY Eagle F1's to riken raptors and experiences far less problems with the rikens. As I said, there are a million theorys out there but there is no easy sure fire fix ive seen here in 5 years and have had the problem come and go a couple times.

Just bought an 04 that had the same problem, before the purchase, the preivious owner took it to nissan and they replaced the rear subframe under recall and the problem was gone.
