Carbon fiber Mishimoto intake
I was at Performance Nissan getting some spark plugs and I was checking out some of the tricked out 350Zs and noticed one had a carbon fiber intake tube. I thought it looked great, so there began my search for a cf intake. I could have bought just a cf tube because the Z tube is about the exact same shape as out tube - it has a slight bend and is about the same length.
But I was on ebay and notice the Mishimoto intake. It not only has the cf tube, it has a cf heat shield.
Install was . . um, interesting. I had to use the Stillen elbow and my smaller battery was needed to accomodate the fairly large heat shield. This intake is not for everybody since you need the Stillen elbow, or at least have an elbow made. Also, I dont think the shield will fit with an OEM-size battery.
Anyway, here are pics:

why not relocate the air filter away from the engine bay where all the heat is?
Or put the battery in the trunk and get a cold air box like ARC or something in that nature.
And i suggest you put some clamps on the red coupler....

The different colored battery is because I did some enbgine detailing before the Toys 4 Tots car show. i painted the battery and changed the radiator hose to a Samco red silicone hose.
Spooled: The carbon fiber shield keeps all the heat away from the air filter. Also, the factory air scoop, which I modified to scoop in more air, blows air directly on to the air filter. I could relcoated the battery, and I may do that in the future, especially if I do more racing.

two things i just wanted to add:
1 you could have had a shop wrap your pipe in cf for UNDER $400. anything else you want in cf a shop can wrap for you also trunk roof etc...
2 $400 on an air intake? should have put to towards fi imo...
either way it still looks good...just paint it..

you can do it yourself or take it to a shop to get wrapped. they can do basically any part of your car for the most part. seeing as the cf intake is for looks only i don't see any reason not to just get it wrapped vs buying a 'real' cf intake. the weight savings are minimal at best.
i'm not trying to take anything away from deus but i would have gone about it differently. that's all

I looked online for cf materials and i researched the process. The problem is producing a product that looks good. It sounds easy to do, but making stuff out of cf and fg is NOT that easy. Its a LOT of work. Yes, the Mishi intake cost a lot, but its a beautiful piece of work. The expense is the heat shield. I found cf intake tubes on fleabay for $114. But the cf heat shield is really gorgeous and I was willing to pay more for it because it added more pizzazz to the engine compartment. To make a tube wrapped in cf would be a LOT of work and you run the risk of it not turning out smooth and gorgeous. CF and fg materials are really messy too. Its a balance. I think some of the veneer material may be good for covering things like roofs, trunks and the like. If anyone wants to have a day where we buy some veneer and cover certain parts of the car, let me know.
