My failed attempt on murdering out my roof trim

Frak!!! This experiment came within 2mm of success. The idea came to me when I was masking and painting my rims. I noticed that the roll of electrical tape I had in my tool box was about the same width of the roof trim. I know some of us are having issues with the trim with fading and discoloration. I also remember someone mentioning painting the trim. Well, this is my take on the solution/idea.

Close but no cigar. I just did one side to see how it would look like. As you can see the tape was not wide enough. If anyone know of a wider tape holla back at me so I can make this work. Oh well, back to the chrome.

If only you had wider tape. It probably would have looked really good. Good try though and GL with whatever way you go about blacking out your trim.

Whats good Gollum... The mod have some possibilities... Why don't you remove it and paint it with flat black like JSmithsole did? Would look at lot better than vinyl tape.

Painting my rims drained me. I think I inhaled too much paint fumes I was quite surprise how good the tape looked. It was my version of a vinyl overlay. I'll stick with the chrome trim for now.

i have (or had) a roll of electrical tape that was slightly wider than the regular stuff. I have no idea what brand it is or where its from but it does exist.

Trimbrite make a black out tape that 3/4" wide, I know my local pepboys sells it. And it wont shrink with heat/cold. I bought some to do the window trim on my 01 AE.

Are the roof trim pieces easy to remove? They look delicate Im afraid of bending them.

How would the tape hold up against the elements?

>> I know some of us are having issues with the trim with fading and discoloration.

Is this fading common?
