04 Max Brake Change

Just changed the front brake pads on my 04 SL. The "BRAKE" and "ABS" lights are on. Can I clear this or did I do something minor that is freaking the sensors out?

okay...the abs and brake lights were on before the brake change. it is my dad's car. i am going to run the codes on it...til then, does anyone have any speculation? the brakes have been working like the rotors are warped for quite some time and he has continued to drive it in this shape. the shake comes from the front, but the rotors didnt seem to be warped.

and i am thinking that it is related to the ABS sensors. tried to just clean the sensors off, and the lights stayed off ( even in reverse when i was braking) until i hit the brakes at a decent speed coming out of the drive way in drive. i guess i will be taking the rotors and assembly off, etc. how does one take the rotors off anyhow? i saw that there are two gold-colored key/spring thingies...that are likely to be tied to this process?

Which pads did you use?

Worth getting nissan pads or go aftermarket?

What about that nissan "brake service", lube crap, etc ?

its not the pads. its definitely something ABS sensor related. anyone know how to get the codes without going to the stealership? also...how the hell do the rotors come off? they are dirty as hell

Get a really long bolt and nut. Put the bolt through the hole where the caliper was attached and the nut on the side facing the rotor. Tighten the nut and it should push the bolt up against the rotor. Eventually the rotor will just pop right off. Cost me like $1 to get one at Home Depot.

anyone know if/how to read ABS codes? isn't it like "put car on on position, hit brake pedal," etc...?

If I change my own pads, do I need to lube anything, etc?
