Replacement Transmission Issues

Hey everyone

Haven't been here in a long time and really need some advice. I have an 04 SE that I took into a different dealer (old one didn't honor warranties..go figure) and told them my transmission was about to go. It had around 58k on the car then. So, they had me pay for a transmission flush and that didn't help. Took it back and they said transmission was bad. Never refunded me the $150 for the flush..anyway a week later they installed my "new" transmission that they ordered. 50 miles later it went bad. Took it back and they said there was not enough tranny fluid, so they added more.

Didn't help..took it back and someone test drove it and said it was fine. Well, ever since then the POS cannot even go from 1st to 2nd without hitting hard..and now it doesn't even know how to shift in 3rd 4th etc..upshifts and downshifts are a nightmare. So, I call back the dealer today with 1k miles on the transmission and they are trying to charge me a diagnostic fee..yet my car has 59k on it and my new trans 1k..I'm under powertrain warranty and warranty for the replacement part yet they are still trying to charge me a fee. I don't know what to do now. Any advice would help, thanks.

You need to file a complaint immediately because its not your fault that they didnt put enough fluid in to begin with. You need to keep all of your paper work and write down word for word what was said and by what tech as well. You may as well file a dispute with BBB as well for this trash. You need to search for nissans courtesy number,It may be in your paperwork you got from the dealer.Do not go without a fight. They may have put their foot in their own mouth for telling you the fluid was low and letting you drive it.

Sorry to hear.. I just got hosed by the dealership. I now know to never bring my car to them for anything ever!

They did a clutch install and just slapped the parts on without grease or lubriction what so ever. I found out when i took it to my personal mechanic who asked me if I pissed someone at the dealership off.

They are out for money and will sabatoge your vehicle without recompense. They will charge you for their fualty repairs.

Thanks for the advice. I called and already have a case. Last time Nissan didn't help me out (other dealer failed to honor warranty claims under 36k mile warranty) and they refused to do any Goodwill repair. So, if they think they can charge me for a diagnostic fee, they can think that. I think I am going to put the charge on my credit card and dispute as unauthorized & get the money back immediately. What do you think? Can they charge a diagnostic fee for something that's under warranty? I called and they said "I helped you out once before, I can't help you out again", that is BS! So now they are going to try to leave me with a shot transmission and not do work? Will update monday..dropping off Sunday night.

God, I feel for ya Brotha. That really sucks. Whatever you do, don't let them get away with this robbery. Stay on top of this and don't let them get away with bloody murder.

I started having subtle intermittent hard shifts and a pronounced "thump" on hard acceleration. I decided I wasn't going to throw money into it for reasons like you're going through. So I traded mine in. Fortunetly the dealer did not test drive the car because it looked so clean. There is far too much bad news regarding these transmissions. You might want to consider a warranty. They don't pre-check your car and you can say it was just replaced and has a warranty regarding the tranny. Just a thought. Best of luck!

I traded my car in on this 2007 Sport M35 series. So far loving it. You can get these for low 20's at a dealer loaded with Nav. Get 9-10K on your trade in and you're rollin' with relatively low car payments(assuming your car is paid off).

Thanks J. My plans are to remain stock(joking aside LOL). That is except for the tires(gone to PS2's), 5mm spacers, intake, exhaust, and a subwoofer in the rears powered by the best value in amplifiers...the "Profile 1200" putting out a clean 600 watts rms into 4 ohms for a mere $169 with a seperate bass level control included. This will compliment the 10 speaker Bose system beautifully.

God I love this car. Never would I have dreamed a car this big could handle this freakin' good and be hella fun to drive!!!! For those of you considering putting in thousands of dollars into your Maxima-don't! Get a "M". I swear you'll be glad you did.

I am overwhelmed by how much the ladies absolutely love this car(and guys but who cares about that). A hottie I showed the car to the other night asked if she could sleep in it. Then promptly gave me her digits.

Defiant_Max04 - sorry to hear about this problem. We all know that the transmissions on our maxima seem to fail when reaching 60K miles.

If the dealer is still putting you through this problem have you tried another dealership?

If I were you I would do what Coolmax said. The day you go and pick up your maxima from service. go and start checking out the other rides. why hassel with it anymore.... trade it back to the same dealership and dont mention about the transmission work. My last trade in, i had a ****ty S10. but it was clean from the inside and out. so they never bothered driving it. gave me 6K for it and used it to buy my first max.

Coolmax05 - car looks good man. i thought you hated dark color cars because of the constant cleaning? Too bad you couldnt sell your awesome suspension and tires. i hope you can make some for me and ronald to check out you new ride.

My transmission just went out on me on the 5th. It's currently at the dealership that I work at since they're gonna do the work. However, the warranty company ordered a 5 speed auto for an SE instead of my 4 speed in my SL. So now I'll probably be out of the car for another week. In the meantime I get to sport a 2009 Chrysler Sebring 4 banger POS! At least I'm only paying $100 deductible though.

Anytime Rick. I'm anxious to see your beaut as well. Nice job on the grill. Call me or I'll call you. I am still a part of the Nissan family.

My deepest regards regarding the Sebring 4 banger. What a downgrade. It's like going from a Intel Pentium 4 Dual processor, to a Intel Celeron. After you get your new Tranny, let us know how you feel about it.

Damn sorry to hear this man, yet ANOTHER transmission thread. It gets me worried everytiime I read these, I have 60 k

Quick question (and this is not to try to say that it was your fault. I am just curious) but how many times have you done tranny fluid exchange? I am just trying to see if the tranny fluid exchange really affects tranny longevity.

at any rate, technically it should have been only twice at 58K

Did it once at 30k, was waiting until 60k to do it. Keep in mind my replacement transmission is shot at 50 miles....I am really thinking of trading it. I don't want to, but I might have to.

I just got a call from the dealer. "Oh, we are calling you to let you know we didn't find anything wrong with the transmission. We did check the computer and you've been driving it hard, VERY hard on a brand new transmission."

Actually, I mostly do only highway driving and if 2700-3000 rpm is "hard", then I don't know what to do. Once in a while I'll floor it, but not that much. So, I don't know where that sh*t is coming from. It seems all of these dealerships don't want to honor warranty work. Anyway, I told them to take another look at it, so they're keeping it until tomorrow. I'm sure they will say the same exact thing. Literally, when your in a parking lot and you go from R --> D or N --> D (this is stopped), it takes 3-4 seconds, then hits hard into gear.. and when your driving it 1-2, 2-1 feels like you have a manual..its a POS. Any advice..are there any service managers on the board? I can't remember their name, but I know there was one. Thanks.

You need to be there with the car and show the tech what it is doing. Also, I don't know Nissan's intimately, but i am very very familiar with GM OBDII computers, there is no way for them to tell how "hard" you've been driving.

A quick update on my car. I am still in a rental car because the warranty company again ordered the wrong transmission. They ordered what looked to be a CVT instead of my 4 speed. ARGGGH!!! I've now been in a rental car for 30 days! I called the warranty company up (Fidelity) and *****ed them out about all of this waiting and the wrong parts being ordered. After that, they finally said that they would try and approve a reman Nissan trans instead of the used that they originally wanted to do. I'll try and keep you guys updated.

400 miles and your getting hard shift? WTF? Call corporate & complain.....you have a 1yr/12k mile warranty on that trans. How long did they take to resolve the issue? My car was in and out of the dealer in 3 days...full replacement. 250 miles on the "new" remanufacturered trans and going strong so far.

well i called corporate in Dec and they dragged their feet on the case because i was a few months out of my factory warranty. However They replaced the valve body when my warranty was current....

I just recently recent my ecu and so far so good no hard shift issues yet but as soon as it returns they will hear about it.....

Is this the same warranty company that a guy on the forums (winterfaust) is selling warranties for? just curious because i bought one and want to know if this is the kind of service i will be getting if i ever need to use the warranty.
