ok... i kinda got tired of searching the forum with this specific concern... i have an 08 maxima with 19 inch nismo rays with 245/45/19 s drives... im currently having rubbing issues with the rear wheels (and probably will have it in the front as well if i drop the car) if someone or anyone at all rides at the back.. my suspension set up, as of now, is all stock... but i am having difficulty moving on with my suspension mods because of this...

i have noticed that alot of you have 19s, 20s, 22s with wider and/or staggered rims and have no problem at all with the rubbing..

any experiences, comments, help, or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.. please..

 

Your plus sizing is off my friend. You need a 40 profile tire on that setup. I'm no wheel expert, but from the numerous posts I've seen on this board you either go 40/19 or 35/20 when you plus size on our cars. I have heard of instances where 1 or 2 people on here have fit 40/20 on the max without rub. Maybe they've rolled their fenders somehow. See if you could exchange those tires for 245/40/19 and you will be good to go.

FTR - I have and '07 with the 19" Nismo and 245/40/19 and my rear passenger wheel rubs when people are in the back (including just 2 light kids).

I've actually loaded up the trunk with weights one time and had people sit in the back so I can see the clearance while the car was still and it seems to be clearing the fender by an RCH. And I would imagine that as bad as the rubbing can be sometimes that there would be some noticable damage to the fender or the tire, which there isn't.

There is also a bolt with a plastic cap that at the top center of the wheel that holds the wheel well liner in place. It's possible that the offset is enough that the stock narrower tires just clears it but the wider 245s just contact it enough. I've removed the plastic cap, but the leaving the exposed bolt worries me more with making tire contact than the plastic cap.

I see all these Maximas with much larger tires and wheels than the 245/40/19 without issues and it baffles me.

I've actually brought this to the dealer one time and they were useless. So useless that they actually tried to compare the offset and wheel gap to an Altima coupe with the Nismo's in the showroom. And of course, they couldn't reproduce the noise.

 

Do you have stock springs...are they SL springs or SE springs. I ride on progress with GR2 shocks and no rubbing issues even with people in the back.

 

Not to hijack, but mine is an SL with stock suspension. And it's only the right rear.

 

Someone needs some new shocks... Stock rear shocks suck! Get some GR2's.

The one shock on that side is probably bad. However, if you are going to get that one done, you might as well do them all. It's only a matter of time before they blow. I have 51k on an SE and I need struts and shocks NOW so I'm doing the suspension Sunday.

Actually, that's not true at all for me.

The recommended tire size for the Nismo wheels is 245/40/19, when compared to the SL stock 17's of 225/55/17 they are almost the identical height and circumference

The 17's have an overall diameter (including tire) of 26.74"
The 19's have an overall diameter (including tire) of 26.72"

 

I'm running 245/45/19 with no rubbing issues what so ever. Stock suspension and got a ton a crap in my trunk and two small kids everyday, like I said not one rub ever.

 

probably (or definitely??) its the offset that killed me... is there any fix?

 

recommended is 245/40/19 is what I ride on my Nismo's and car is dropped never had rubbin issue with or without passengers...

weird... i'm still rubbing at 245/40/19..... stealership said that it was indeed rubbing and it was due to the offset... what if i go 235 and or 35? will that work?

i have 235-35-20 my wheels ofset is +38 and its slammed like three inches on ksports with not ever a single rub front or rear and the front are also almost tucked the back is tucked to the point were u dnt see much tire... a little to low in my opinion probably gunna raise it some this weekend basically i was just stateing that its not just the tire the offset of the wheels comes into play when your trying to cram it up there lol

P.S.- in regard to the comment 35's ride like i crap??? i have them with k-sports and its amazing... not a stock ride anymore but i look at it as i can feel the road lol

 

You have the correct tire size but whats the offset and width of the rear rims. If they rub on inside (brake/suspension side) you can get spacers rather cheap, the outside you'll have to roll the fenders

offset is +35.. the fenders are slightly rubbing on the sidewall of my tires.. but what i dont understand is why some people have the same set up i have but they dont rub.. again its an 08 maxima.. i dont know if something is different with the 6.5 gens vs the 6th gens...

how about going for 235/40/19?
