Ghetto DIY painting idea work?

Hey guys, I'm looking into getting the Paradox Systems roof spoiler. My local bodyshop quoted me $100 to paint it winter frost pearl (QX3 code), because it's a 3 stage paint. I think the price is ridiculous for something so small. Duplicolor doesn't make QX3 color. I noticed that Crayola makes the airbrush paint system (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...LAID=316031650), and was wondering if anyone has tried to use it with auto paint? I already have the Nissan factory touch paint. It doesn't seem to be very thick, and I think it might work. I know it sounds tacky. What do you guys think?

Please do it right It's just unfortunate that your paint cost $50 for an 11oz spray can

I'm sure the professional paintjob is going to be much better. The price they want to charge is hard to swallow, as the roof spoiler is only $100 on eBay. Installation is a breeze. It comes with double sided 3m tape. Just peel and stick to rear windshield.

It's a good idea but I don't think that crayola one will work well.

Why not just use some white spray paint? The color won't be exact, but you may be able to find a close one at AC Moore.

If your really serious about painting it yourself, I would check out http://www.paintscratch.com/. Theyre a great company. But It will probably cost the same as the body shop.

FWIW i paid $80 to get my IonicDynamic roof spoiler professionally sprayed. That includes clear coat also... I don't think you should be paying more than that.

I have the same color as the OP. And Id tell you in the sunlight it will be a nice diffrence, so spend the money as opposed to spending money the first time and then getting it done agian.

#100 to paint it professionally is a good price, I would also ask them to mount it for you so you don't have to worry about that.

Let the body shop do it. With the crayola thing, if it starts to look horrible down the line, you will have to remove the spoiler and respray. That headache is not worth saving 30-40 bucks.

I am surprised this is even up for discussion. What's next we are going to fix tires with duck tape because $22 is too much for a patch?
