Front passenger strut "clunking"?
I'm having the same issue. The strut and strut mount were replaced a week ago, so I'm assuming that's not the problem. Any other ideas?
Unfortunately, I can't take it back to the shop that did the work because I just bought the car and the guy I bought it from had it done three days before I bought it.

Could also be the strut, i've done quite a few under warranty for clunking. Also, the steering rack, i've done 2 for clunking. Raise both front wheels off the car and grab the suspect tire and firmly try to turn it like your trying to steer left then to the right but not enought to actually turn the steering wheel. See if theres any play or clunking.
Ok, it's the front strut. Not under warranty.
Should I replace them with OEM shocks or monroe sensatrac, or KYB??? (stock setup, not going to change that ever).
Nissan asks 143 front, and sensatrac are 177 (Canadian$). So sensatrac are more expensive, but lifetime warranty I think. Go OEM or monroe ?!? which one is better? I'd change the rear too, but nissan is 126 each and monroe is 50 so thats better.
EDIT: Autopartsway.ca has the KYB GR2 for 80 can each shipped (so thats great) , autopartseh.com has the fronts for 100 and rear for 74 so if I can get them to pricematch fronts, it would be good.
What about KYB GR2 as replacement for OEM? Get those or just get OEM? OEM is 538+tax and KYB would be 308+tax, so thats 230$ cheaper.
Worth getting the nissan bearings for the front struts or any other parts while I do this job?
Thanks

As far as bearings go, thats on you. I think we sell em for 52 bucks each last time i checked. Also get some dust boots if your trynna keep it nice and clean.
Along with the transimission issues im having...the dealer is telling me that my two front struts are leaking and are covered by my warranty. my sway bar needs to be replaced and are covered. They are telling me that the barrings and mounts are not covered which would be about $220. Are these not covered? They also told me my engine mount needed replacing and is not covered as well. They are causing me pain and distress.

If you guys want, outta the goodness of my heart lol, PM me your VINs and when i get a chance i can run warranty history on your cars and see if those parts your questioning are covered or not. That is only if you have a Nissan Security Plus extended warranty.
After your struts are replaced, is there a time frame for them to be seated.I had my drivers side strut replaced this morning at the dealership under warranty.Leaving the dealership it was no noise from the strut. After driving for 10 minutes i heard the creeking noise again on the same side. So before I take this car back I want to wait and see if maybe the new strut has to seat or something or maybe the noise should'nt have came back.
I've never heard of any "break in" of struts, at least not OEM. You may have something else making noise. Take it back to the dealer asap so they can accurately continue diagnosing.
Ok First off. The extended warranty from Nissan is different in Canada and the USA...I have the extended Nissan warranty and I'm Canadian Eh!
In Canada the extended warranty does not cover the shocks.
Second; you don't have to replace all 4 shocks...
What shocks you need and should choose are determined by how you drive. If you want a softer ride go with Monroe, if you want a sportier ride go with KYB GR2s that's what I have and I love em.
Third; if you're going to change your front shocks make sure you change the shock mounts. Also check all the bushings under car and check your springs...make sure that they have not rusted to pieces. Change the endlinks...these are covered and do not take long to change...they connect to the anti-sway bar.
Fourth; New shocks don't make noise and there is no break-in or seating period. Maxima shocks are oil based struts, KYB are gas shocks....If you see fluid leaking around the shocks and they are OEM then they need replacing.
Finally after any major work underneath (suspension) it's advisable to do a front wheel alignment...you do not need a four wheel alignment on our Gen Maximas in general.
If you can, I would get the dealership to do this under your warranty claiming the strut mounts needed replacing and are probably worn. So that would cover it...go that route.
Also, I trust my dealership and have worked out a deal with them. You get my car for everything...give me an automatic 10% off your hourly rate all the time.
BTW - Many times when we think it's that damn front right strut, it sometimes ends up being the mounts, bushings or especially for people that are lowered....the end-links...
Good luck...and let us know what happens!

My wifes 2002 Toyota Corolla was making those same clunking sounds two weeks ago...and I was sure it was the right strut...so just before I order two new KYB's @ $138.00 Ea (Can $) plus labor....I went to my local garage. They check it and we ended up replacing the endlinks for $100; parts, labor & tax included!
And now it's quiet! So you never know! Always try and check first.
