08 Maxima. HID Headlights @ Night

Here's my 08 Maxima @ Night. It uses 10,000k HIDS. It has a Blue/Purple Shade on it.
The car didnt come with the stock HID so i had to go on ebay and buy the actual headlight assembly. It was about $300-400 a headlight.

Liquid, are you sure yours are 10,000K? Those dont appear to have enough color in them. It may just be the camera.

Look at this pic in the garage. U see the Blue/Purple Tint on the cutoff on the top of the headlights?
That should be roughly 10,000 K, but thats just my guess.

When you bought the light assemblies, did they already have the bulbs? That looks stock to me.

yup. i thought i was the only one to say... that doesnt look like 10k. if it was 10k, they would be deep blue/purple from any direction you look at them. like nyana's.

the factory ones are 4300k. i have them. and thats exactly what my lights look like.

I was thinking about maybe upgrading to 8k HIDs? Anybody think that be a good idea? Is it legal to upgrade from say 4300 to 6k or 8k
Has anybody done this and got good results as far as seeing things better at night or in the rain, etc ?
Check out these links to the ones im intrested in.

Well, anything other than 4300K will not increase brightness. Once you start adding color, night vision goes down. I personally wouldnt go above 8000K though. Its up to you. 6000K would be ideal for both color and function.
You need to order from the group deals section. You will get better customer service.

I thought 8k and 10k was more of a haze, I've read reviews of owners switching back to 43/45 or 6k cause it strained the eyes

What maxima models come stock with HID headlights? I just bought a 2005 Maxima SE 6 Speed? I have not picked it up yet I get it Wed. Just wondering if my model already has the HID headlights or do I need a conversion kit?

Thanks

First, congrads on getting a Maxima. You have to check yourself if you got HID or halogen. If you need a HID kit, you need 9006 HID for your headlights & H3 for your fog lights.

Here's the link to the group deal: http://forums.maxima.org/group-deals...og-lights.html . He has over 40pages of positive feedbacks and you usually get them the next day, if he has them in stock. Remember, J got his yellow fog lights from him and he loves it.

Stock bulbs in an HID are 35 watt. TO upgrade to 55w you will need a whole new kit.

Go to the group deals section to check out the HID kits offered there. Also, see the link posted in post # 26.

I have an 08 and also bought 10K off of ebay.. (Never will I suggest that to any one) I bought 2 10K kits and installed them myself.. 1-2 monthes in, 3 ballasts blew.. To make a long story short.. My head light and fog light color looks the same as yours bro.. But overall they look nice.. Go with the same kit on the fogs.. They'll look nicer IMO.. My ride didn't come with OEM hid's either.. I didn't recall having to buy head light assemblies..

I guess what I really meant was is it safe/legal to use a 55w setup as the low-beams?

Should be fine as long as the headlights are aimed correctly. No one has a measuring device to say how bright your bulbs are. Anything will be super bright if you look at it straight on.

higher color temp gives you worse visibility in poor weather. The bluer light scatters like crazy and doesn't 'cut' through the fog or rain like yellow light does.

The 6th and 7th gen take very well to a HID kit, since they're "bi-halogen". that means they are just like a "bi-xenon" projector, but take a halogen bulb. If you put a GOOD 9006 kit in it, most people would be hard pressed to tell the difference between it and the OEM hids.

55w isn't legal (anything besides 35w OEM bulbs and ballasts isn't), but it's not a big deal.

If your car is stock xenon, and you want to upgrade to 55w, buy 55w ballasts and AMP to D2S connectors from ebay seller "yourhid". Then buy a pair of Philips 85122 35w bulbs and use that.
The 55w kit bulbs aren't very good - they run very hot. Using real Philips bulbs at a higher-than-normal voltage will give you good results. Reduces lifespan a bit, but used 85122 go for under $50 a pair, which is cheaper than the 9012 halogen HIR stock bulbs. You will still get years out of them.

yeah... that's where all of the HID kits come from. You think any of the kits on ebay or in the Group Deals were made in the US, germany, or japan? nope... china.

That's why I can buy an Umnitza kit with 2 bulbs and ballasts for $50, but to piece together Philips bulbs and Matsu****a ballasts is ~$150 depending on how quick you are on ebay.

I knew they were all made in china, Ijust was saying that the guy is located in china, and thats where it would be shipped from. I was just pointing that out.

I don't know about Umnitza. Nothing against the guy, but I been reading a lot of bad things about his product. Hopefully those things get resolved. If you want to buy a ebay kit, look for HIDKING, I heard from a few guys I know and someone from the other org bought kits off of him and his kits are good (so far). Or you can go to www.ddmtuning.com, I think those kits have lifetime warranty.

I have an Umnitza kit. One of the ballasts makes a humming noise. He gave me a 9004 connector that was wired incorrectly and blew out a capacitor in my harness.
