It seems there are really two options when it comes to y-pipes for our cars... Racingline or Cattman. If (practically speaking) I am never going to do headers and don't NEED the cat, which one would you guys typically prefer, and why?

 

Cattman all the way. Nothing against Taz (Racingline) or anything.

 

why wouldnt u need the cat? i thought the y pipe had a cat...?

 

The racingline y pipe has the option of having the cat welded on

 

so if i get a ypipe, i will fail emissions?

 

you will pass with a y-pipe, i believe you still have 2 other cats that will do the job for an emissions test.

 

I feel like a big noob... Can someone break down the entire exhaust for me... Gains of each section ect. Headers, y pipe, cattback....

 

There are no concrete numbers. Everyone's car is different.

But with each mod, you will get noticeable gains... especially the headers. I have the Cattman headers, Cattman y-pipe, and Greddy SP2 exhaust. The headers have been the most dramatic upgrade, even when combining all others together.

 

Not unless your state does a visual inspection.

well i got the racingline y-pipe with no cat and topspeed catback nd i passed inspection so im pretty sure u will too

 

I too am fairly new to this, but my understanding is that each exhaust manifold has a cat on it. These manifolds would be replaced by headers. The replacement headers do not have cats on them, so if you are planning on doing headers, you would need to have one in the y-pipe so you dont throw a code and fail emmisions. If you never do headers, there are two options for a y-pipe w/ or w/o a cat. Cattman seems to offer one in each variety. The option that has a cat also has dual o2 sensor ports for relocating the existing o2 sensor that is after the cats in your exhaust manifold (extra $$$). Racingline's variation only seems to have an option to weld in a cat, and unless you have those skills and equipment, you will be paying someone. not sure if i was all that clear with this...

which leads me back to my original question... what has been peoples preference between Cattman and Racingline (keeping in mind the near 100 dollar difference)?

 

Well, I have a Cattman (without cat)... you can pry it from my cold dead fingers...

 

This has all been discussed over and over again. They're both great products and they give almost the exact same gains (if one gave more power than the other, it wouldn't be a noticeable gain).

 

Yea all of that helped a lot.. I also read somewhere else that both products are very good and will produce the same amount of gains...

Nope. But you may not pass a visual inspection. Check to see if your state does visuals.

 

True........the other thing to consider is that your pre-cats (manifold cats) IMO will eventually fail. When they do, you can either buy new cats for $1200 plus install or you can get headers for around $600 + install.

If I had to do it over again I'd have got the Y with the cat in it from the get but now I am wondering if the fastcat will be strong enough for me to pass emissions by itself. I have my doubts I may have to conver to a brick cat to really get past it, I'll probably just toss on my old y pipe when that time comes.

 

Well, I just ordered the Racingline Y-pipe. I will probably get the FSTB at the same time because, ome to find out,c both are actually back ordered for another couple weeks. Bummer!

 

Dont you hate when that happens.... place an order and then find out afterwards they are on backorder!? It will be worth the wait, Y-pipe is one of the best mods for our cars.

 

i got it nd love it you'll feel the power as well not much but juz enough

 

y pipes are useless on 02-08 cars, they dont get rid of the precats, and give like 5-7 whp..take it from someone who has been down that road..go headers or go home..

 

unless u get it used for 50 bux, its the worst mod dollar for dollar
