Modifying my C-Mod Grill....Gutter style

Quite a few of us has purchase this grill as an alternative to the more expensive Active Tuning grill. I've been happy with my purchase but I always thought that the holes on the grill was a tad too big and it would look a lot better if the holes are smaller.
Hence the $2.00 gutter mod courtesy of Home Depot. This was very easy. The mesh is a perfect size so there is minimal cutting. Total time was about an hour with paint and trimming of the mesh.

The weapon of choice

Comparison of the two

Final fitting. Masked off where mesh needs to be trimed

End product. I had to do some additional trimming on the bottom so the tabs could slide into the bumper. I didn't have to cut the excess near the hood latch, just gently push it down so the mesh is out of the way

Painted and mounted

Before the mod with the Batz Badge

I like this mod so much that I am gonna replace the bottom aluminum billet grill with the same mesh so it would match.

Nice work! I will eventually get one of those too. Almost had a brand new one off of Craigs list for $100 but missed by a few hours.

I'll change the mesh too. Good job.

I am planning on doing the same mesh swap on my Cmods grill and also doing the lower grill. What did you use to secure the mesh to the stock lower grill.

hey, can you tell us how many zip ties. I know there are many "ribs" in the lower bumper, but how many places do you actually have to attached this mesh to keep it tight.

Thanks nyana107 for the zip ties advice. I changed out the mesh on the grill this weekend with the trusty gutter guard and also did the lower mesh, ended up using 3 zip ties per rib looks great I have to take some pic and upload. Also installed my K&N intake. Next project will be catback exhaust.

I tried...

You know, I went about modifying my factory grill and tried to use the gutters but they just weren't wide enough. I needed an extra inch of gutter to cover the whole thing... I guess the c-mod grills have more lip on them than factory. Heres my revision:

I had to go to fencing and they had some fence material that was similar to chicken wire with much smaller holes. I think it turned out really well...

the tighter weave of the "gutter" meshing does look better than the original meshing. good eye!

I like the grill...I think that with your car though Silver or Chrome would be a better fit.
There are shops out there that do chrome plating. Depending who you know it can be expensive or affordable. Motorcycle shops can usually point you in the right direction because motorcycle modders do a lot of customizing and chroming. I bet your grill would also look awsome in chrome too!

it looks good, i have changed out my t-rex with a c-mod and went to Canadian tire where they had chrome mesh and smaller holes, i replace it with that. it looks ok but i am still out on the hunt for some thing differant, like some sort of perferated metal that i can powder coat flat black and moumt it in the c-mod. i will put some pictures up of my chromed c-mod later

I had a grill like that over 5 years ago, it's called a TRENZ (brushed Aluminum). The Nissan Emblem is an aftermarket and I bought mine in the emblem section of Ebay Motors! My emblem is on the rear of my car though.
