Shifter stuck.

Shifter stuck.
'04 Auto Se. Shifter went from being stuck sporadically and requiring me to press the shift lock to free it, to recently, getting permanently stuck, always requiring the shift lock release.
The brake pedal is making contact with switches down below, when it's pushed the brake light comes on and the shifter switch is released also, which you'd think would release the shifter.
What are the most likely solutions to this problem? There can't be many, I'd love to do it myself...

I should actually restate..
The shifter only gets stuck from park into reverse, and then from neutral up. All other directions and operations go smoothly. My mechanic wants to deal with the switch on this, and I have a feeling that's not going to solve it based on the fact it works certain ways but not others.... Not an expert in this department though...

ever find a solution? This just happened to me this morning.
I checked fuses. Electrical parts (mentioned in another thread) was ok, but Brake Light fuse was blown.
Dread swept over me this am fearing tranny went even though no symptoms yet.

okay so 3 Brake Light fuses replaced in 3 days...
1st time I did a common 25 min commute
2nd time/day it sat at work for 9 hours
Tonight I dove less than 1 mile
for now I swapped the 10A for 15A.
Only change is led bulbs and 3rd brake light i've been running for about a year. Really do not want to inspect every wire... bulbs all work fine. have not touched a thing.
