Repeat Blown Fuses, Please help

Hey Guys,

Need a bit of help on this one. I was on the highway last week when all of a sudden everything went dead, steering, complete dash, & car completely shut itself off just rolling forward in neutral out of the friggin blue! upon looking under the hood a buddy and I discovered I had blown a fuse. [Pic below] Green box, 40A fuse which seems to control the engine. Once we bridged the fuse it started up so we simply replaced the fuse. A few days goes by and I swear I hear clicking noises coming from the steering column similar to that of static cling. I brushed it off thinking it was by keys banging against one another. Well sure enough today when I started my ride this afternoon I began to turn the wheel, hear the static cling noise & boom..... car dies again! Argghhhh!!!!!

I pop the hood only to find the SECOND fuse below it blew as well. I Then soldered the two fuses together to get her home. It worked to start it up, but then I noticed the steering column started sparking up! Smoke & fumes started coming from the pedals area. this would happen whenever I tried to turn the steering column so I had to stop her and load my baby onto a flatbed to get her home .

Any thoughts as too what could be the issue? Only mods are a Pioneer Avic-D3 (installed about a year and a half ago... oh yeah I didn't have the PAC steering wheel unit installed if thats what anyone was wondering. So the steering controls are dead to the world & shouldn't be playing a role here.) LED Luxer 1 lights (installed about a month ago).

I'd check the steering column for sure. If it was sparking and smoking you should be able to quickly see where the problem is. Probably chaffed(?) through a wire and its shorting out.

Thnx guys, yea it actually turned out to be the steering wheel column & some wiring of the after market alarm as well. I brought it to the stealership and they said it's not friggin covered cuz the alarm was installed "after". I nearly blew my own fuse when I told them I purchased it from Nissan with THIS very alarm installed in it. (Car was pre-owned). Long story short... I have to flip the bill for it. :|

man i would make more of a stink because they sold it to you wiht that alarm. was it certified pre-owned? i would ask to speak to the manage's manager, put up a little more stink see what happens, call corporate and file a claim, it may not get you anywhere, call BBB and make a claim. Tell the manager that you are going to do all this if they did not fix all. See what happens, dude be an ahole, b/c it aint right and we all know it

^ what he said. if you bring it up most likely they'll give you the run around but if you keep pushing on the matter and be an a-hole, things will most likely go your way since you're right. you bought the car from the dealership with that alarm already installed so it's their default from what i see.
