Hey guys, my steering rack is kaput and rather than pay what my local guy wanted ($900) I got the part for $300 and am installing in myself. I have done them before but have never removed the airbag and steering wheel that Nissan recommends to prevent damage to the Spiral cable. Is taking that apart really necessary?

 

Are you sure its the steering rack ? I was quoted $900 something for a rack too from where I bought my 04 and all I needed to do was Spray wd40 on the bolt inside the engine compartment at the bottom of the rack because it would lock up because of road salt. Have you tried that ? It worked from then on fine. I could feel it kind of pushing back ( or locking up for a second ) as I turned the wheel rapidly. and I saved myself $900.00

 

Wish it was that easy but it's the rack. I am getting one realy cheap so I am not that concerned. My car has real high mileage and I am holding on to it for awhile.

So has anyone had experience with this install?
