What is this tab on my brakes?

Hi all
OK, so I did not drive the max for about a week and its been cold here in MD. Today, I get in the car, put it in reverse and it would not move. The car hesitated like something was blocking the tires. I got out of the car and looked at the tires and they were clear, no obstruction. So I got back in again, and hit the gas. Finally, I heard something give way, like a popping sound and the car started moving. I drove it and seems like everything is OK. Now, my question is, I see this tab on my front brakes and what to know what it is? Any ideas?

It's a little tab on the outer pad and that gold thing is outer shim. The orange stuff is a little break quiet that squeezed out. Nothing to worry about.

nothing to worry about there, as for your car sticking your brakes probably froze to your rotors or something like that. as long as everything seems fine now i wouldn't worry about it
