Thinking about buying a y-pipe...I need more info.

-----------------------------------------------
No real easy/cheap solution to the codes some are getting with the front air/fuel ratio sensors. That's just the nature of the beast when you remove your primary catalytic converters. I'll be getting an UpRev Osiris tune within the next few months to remedy this... but it's not cheap:

-----------------------------------------------
A lot of people make claims... "want" is a relative term... Sure, spacers, y-pipe will give you more hp, but the addition of headers will give you even more. It all depends what you're trying to get out of your car.
-----------------------------------------------
Racingline y-pipe has no cat, but you won't throw any codes for the rear o2 sensors unless you also install headers. An aftermarket y-pipe won't affect warranty at all.
So headers and Y pipe together could throw codes...I will probably go with just the Y pipe then....
Oolatec thanks for answering my questions.
UpRev Osiris tune?
BTW what is a " upRev Osiris Tune? "
Cheers!

Can Racingline or Cattman chime in here please? Do any of you offer the Catalytic converter that is just under the Rad. The Nissan part is 208A2-7Y60A? This is the cat that is next to the rad...
Nissan original costs around $900....
Mine threw a SES code and it's just out of warranty...96 Months or 130K Kms., the dealer is going to try to claim it under "good will" as this thing is suppose to last longer than that and I purchase the full extended warranty. Does the Cattman Y-pipe come with this cat? Since I live in Canada I would consider the Racingline too...aren't you guys working on a free flow cat?

You're talking about the "front" pre-cat, which bolts between the stock manifold and the stock y-pipe. It can't be included in the y-pipe because its a separate part in the first place.
There are just two solutions for your bad front pre-cat - replace it with another pre-cat or install headers (each header manifold replaces the stock exhaust manifold AND the pre-cat underneath it).
We sell a replacement pre-cat (US-made, but not Nissan) that is not a performance part. Its ugly and it doesn't make the car go any faster, but at $295 its much cheaper than the Nissan unit.
The Cattman y-pipe is available with or without the main (3rd) catalytic convertor, but this cat corresponds with the cat that is in the stock y-pipe, it has nothing to do with the failed pre-cat you're talking about. The Racingline website indicates that they also offer a cat option, but you'd have to confirm with them.
Remove or replace that front precat soon. Many of the Maxima pre-cat substrates (the active core) start disintegrating into fine sand sometime after the CEL goes off, and small amounts get sucked into those 3 cylinders, which destroys the motor pretty quickly. Like I tell my customers, if you've recently noticed increased oil consumption (following a failed front precat), its already too late.
Good luck with the goodwill replacement, that would be the ideal solution!

That would depend on two things, 1) the amount of design investment required on the front end, and 2) how much demand there was for the part.
If we had to design the part from the ground up, its difficult to imagine selling enough of them to amortize the cost of development.
One indicator is this. We're getting ready to make our second batch of 3" 5th gen exhausts, a total of around 25-30 units. We offer a "no resonator" option for turbo drivers, and only one unit has been ordered that way. Obiously there are a number of turbo conversions out there, but the critical question (when considering the development of a part like this) is how many cars are in the process of being "turbo'd" at the same time (and are in the market for turbo components), and I think the answer is very few.

We are working on a performance precat option using Metal core Cats, but at this moment in time the project is still experimental. Test fitting, dyno runs, and real world testing will all be starting in the next 2 weeks though
OK So I was lucky and Nissan ponied up for the precat that's located under the Rad...what it did cost though was the installation which was not covered and that was close to $500 Tax in. That included 5 hours labor at $63/hr and about $100 for misc nuts bolts gaskets etc....However I will still get my Y-pipe this spring. And most important I would like to thank everyone here that helped me, especially Brian Catts for taking the time to explain the whole thing. Most importantly in my research, and I think this is important for all 6th gen owners here: Mods please take note and consider putting this in one of the stickys: I found a Canadian company out of Toronto that also have an EBAY store and sell a 100% clone oem replacement Cat for about $220 US! In fact they make all exhaust parts for our cars. SUNRISE Exhaust...do a search in Ebay motors or Google them. In fact you'll even save on the little extras like the nuts and bolts and gasket as this is included too! I got my baby back and she's purring...Good luck everyone...and by the way if you're over the months or just over the mileage for the warranty always negotiate as I'm sure that Nissan will do a "good will" warranty, especially if you went to the dealer for your maintenance and oil changes plus especially if you purchased the extended warranty like I did. My dealer has a special hourly rate for good customers...the regular rate is around $75 - $85 hr I get it for $63/hr...this is something you can negotiate too if you tell the dealer: Look if you give me a break on the hourly rate, I will do all my work with you.
