manual flood
Intersting event with car yesterday morning. Jumped into max in 25 degree weather. Started car and thought car was in nuetral, removed foot from clutch only to realize car was in first gear and it of course stalled. I attempted to restart after about 3-4 seconds, but car refused to start as it was flooded. I guess for the 3-4 seconds it was providing more fuel to engine. Now this is the intersting part. I removed the fuse for the fuel pump and attempted to restart, and it actually fired up for 2-3 seconds. Replaced the fuse for the fuel pump, and it started normally and I was on my way.

This is what happened. Its 25 degrees and the car started. It idled up to a higher rpm probably between 1500-2500rpm. You accidentally stall it and it has excess fuel in the cylinders. When you try and restart the car is dumping more fuel in but didn't start because its flooded. It started after you pulled the fuse because it was pushing out the unburnt fuel until the spark caught and the engine fired up until the excess fuel was burnt.
Pulling the fuel pump fuse is one way to clear the excess fuel. But there is an easier way to clear the excess fuel when flooded. On a fuel injected car if you push the accelerator to the floor and crank the engine the ecu shuts the fuel injectors off so no more fuel is put in and the excess is pushed out. Just floor it and crank for a few seconds then release the gas peddle and crank it again and it should start. If it doesn't then floor it again and crank it then try again without it floored.
