Spare Tire

Hey guys, this is probably a simple question to answer. For the ppl that opted to have an 18" spare instead of the donut, does it go facing up or down and is the cover a different part? TIA

I am not for sure but i think side that the lug nuts go on faces up.

I dunno if i even have a spare. If i do then i dunno if it even has any air. Since i will never see it, i really dont care . Roadside assistance FTMFW.

I have a full size spare and it is facing down, this way you can put an extra jug of washer fluid or liter of oil inside the rim and still have the cover fit properly. I'm sure that the cover is a different part than those with just the donut. My cover bulges up about an inch around where the spare is to give it clearance.

It was facing down. There is no center cap as the rim is secured to the bottom of the trunk with the plastic piece threaded in to the the bottom of the trunk. In the event you need to use the spare, you would take the center cap off the tire that is flat so that you can secure the flat back under the trunk cover.

In my 4th Gen - there is a bracket that sticks up - so I can't put a tire in 'face' down, also, my cover is 'flat' (bit bowed at the moment) so if I put a full size spare in the space it wouldn't touch steel the whole way around...

But this is in my plans - create a 'false' bottom in the rest of the trunk in order to have a flat trunk bottom with a full size spare in place.

A full size spare face up or face down will always create a hump in the middle, which is caused by the width of the tire. The only way i can think of getting rid of the hump is to do what Deus suggested:

And then flip the board.

Any one out there with just the donut for a spare have the hump in the middle?
