Symptoms of bad intake valve timing solenoids
Went to dealer for ses light and car is lacking in power and it's just lagging. Soo they told me could be the camshaft pos sensor... They replaced Em nothing changed. Than they said try the intake valve solenoids Soo they want 800 total. Soo I figured I'll replace them myself but I don't wanna replace them if that's not the problem. But has anyone ever had these go bad? And what were the symptoms?

it could definitely be running f'd up from stuck, bound, seized variable cam timing solenoids..as long as everything else checks out ok like plugs, filters, engine oil system (dont forget these solenoids operate w/ clean free flowing oil) if yours is all dark and old and sludgy they dont work right. Be warned, the firewall bank solenoid is freakin buried on that year 3.5..be patient and remove everything to access it EDIT;just saw your sig looks like oil changes arent the problem..i have also seen the older wiring harnesses open up back there (frayed wires)..

Timing chains... all 3 of them. I was having this problem about a month ago. Advanced Auto said it was the camshaft sensors. Got that fixed and then it was my intake timing valve selinoids (sp?) So, I have some friends at Nissan and they said that both of my selinoids couldn't not work then work again. Come to find out it's the timing chains cause they control the camshaft and intake sensors. Not an easy job, most mechanics wouldn't do it. Nissan wanted 2k but found a place to do it for $1600. Needless to say, no one's getting a xmas gift from me. Hope this helps.
