Flat spot on exhaust center pipe

I'm probably asking a question that's been asked, and going to be told this is stock, but had to ask.

I was under the car the other day and noticed for the first time the long center pipe for the exhaust that runs down the middle of the car has a flat spot on the top side of the pipe. Doesn't look damaged, looks like it was made that way, section is somewhere under 2 feet long. Seems like they did it for extra clearance between the heat shield and the pipe, but why, to keep the back seat floor cool?

Anyway, if this is normal someone clue me in...

Definitely normal. That's why everyone gets a Catman/Racingline y-pipe...

That's normal. They do it for clearance under the gas tank.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Not sure why they did it, seems like there's more than enough room for that space they saved...but at least now I know that they did do it.
