Oh boy. 5th Gen is a different animal. IF OP has the 4AT, I feel it'd be a waste of $.

i may be way off here, please correct me if so, but is the 4AT not left over from the 5th gens?
i'm just curious if you can elaborate on your opinion. always interested in learning more about performance mods (though unlikely I ever will do them).

If you have the tiptronic shifter then you have the 5 speed, if not, 4 speed. Simple and done.
I am an 04 with the 5 speed.

No tiptronic shifter. Its a 4 speed for sure. What does this have to do with headers anyway?

well i saw that it is a different header for the 2 trannies. but still wondering why on tranny would make it not worth getting them.

click that link above and see the price difference since yours i believe is on backorder. ask the sponsor what they think about the headers they sell/designed for the different trans.

I feel sure the headers will give similar performance gains at the crank. The 4 speed is not the best option tranny-wise for performance but adding a set of headers to the engine would definitely help it flow better which equates into better performance. It doesnt matter what tranny you have. Headers will, absolutely, help.

You have to either look at the Cattman sale threads or actually call for current products. The web site has been like that for years I guess. I thought the same thing when I wanted headers from him.

Go for it if that's what you want! Cattman makes them and also consider racinglines free flow precats and Y pipe. You have 3 choke points restricting air flow on a maxima, Precat, Catalatic converter, and B pipe! Lose the 3 and give your VQ some lungs!

If you have to do anything, I'd check out the Racingline cats. Cheaper/easier install.

Will the Cattman Y-pipe work with the new Racingline highflow pre-cats?

I bought a header and Y-Pipe setup and the a**holes didn't put an 02 sensor fitting in the front headers, so the setup has 3 total 02 sensor fittings, when our Maxi's have 4 02 sensors, so I'm confused. Are these people just idiots? or does it REALLY not need all 4 sensors.

Depends on who the headers were made for? If they are Cattman all the sensor connections should be there, If they are a used set of HotShot Headers for the Nissan Altima SE-R then all sensor connections should be there. I don't know of any other brands made that are direct bolt ups for the Max so they won't have them. The good news is any muffler shop can cut the hole and weld them up! Also It's been a while but I think we have 5 - O2 sensors! 2 of mine were extended back behind the high flow Cat!

I'm sure that would work. The RL HFCs are meant to be direct OEM replacements.

About those other guys

Yeah,

About CustomMaxima and ebay. First of all if the cheapness doesn't scare you the fact that their products won't fit should . I looked into all of those "options" if you want to call them that and no thanks. Now the hfpc, I just found those yesterday and I was wondering about those. Does anybody know anything more about them? I kind of wanted to eliminate my cats in favor of a cat free system but if anyone can give me some solid feedback on those hfpc it would be much appreciated. I'm still looking for the Hotshot headers for the 2005 altima SE-R if anyone knows where they are I gotta a nice for you.

Thanks

HFC will be way better than the stock ones... you should see some noticeable gains too. Racingline is legit.

The install is also way simpler than full cats. They are direct replacements.

You can run a cat free system... all you have ot do is trick the computer's secondary o2 sensors and not have to pass an emissions test. You also have to deal with the smell of not having any cats(stinky). It is possible.

Hello Chernmax,

I am also looking forward for changing these 3 choke points step by step.

But can you please advise which will be the first most effective change to make in terms of performance. I am thinking the Y-Pipe, if so then can you let me know which one is the best one to get?
I want to order it today.

First step, if you're beyond your 80,000 mile emissions warranty, should be to replace the stock cats with the Racingline HFCs (high flow cats). Doing so will save you a ton of trouble down the road when the stock ones eventually start to break up.

Can I get the Y pipe first because i cannot afford the whole package or the HFCs as of yet i need save up for the HFC.
I read that putting the Y pipe in gives out that V8 rumble sound which is what i am really craving for.. so can i get that first then later on HFC...?
.... and the fact that its gonna give the car +13whp! true?

The car has 77k miles on it.

Of course you can. But don't expect it to sound like a V8 Mustang/Camaro etc.
