Should I paint my headlight housings black?

I'm probably going to remove the black vinyl roof overlay in the future (it looks like **** now, probably from parking under trees) and plan on getting ruby red LED taillights (maybe lightly tinted). I have all the parts to convert my halogen headlights to OEM HID (and probably for more headlights too lol), so my headlights are going to be opened regardless.

I used to be set on painting the headlights black, but the more I look at my car the less I want to do it. I guess I feel that black headlights would make the car look too sporty, which I'm trying to stray away from. I know it's not a "luxury" car, but that's the look I'm going for with it, and most I've seen don't have black headlights. When I look at the front, I kind of feel that black headlights would be a little much, almost like I'm just trying to paint whatever I can black just to continue the black accent theme. My gut feeling right now is leave them as is, what do you guys think?

Don't paint them black. Change the orange reflector to a clear one or add a white led strip down the side. Your right, painting them black would look overdone really quickly.

It will match the black theme you got going on better if you paint them black. It will definitely not look over done. Doing chrome handles, pillars and fender accents is overly done

This is when I still had my 06 front.

IMO, you could paint them black and chrome. It'll match your rims.

EDIT: Just saying that since you don't really want to black it out.

Paint them black. They will match perfectly with the black theme.

Do the '07-'08 front end and black out those headlights!

6.5 is right, if you don't want to go all blk then do the blk/chrome. i have not seen many that way and it would set your car off from others.

I kind of want to leave the orange reflector. If I left the housings chrome, I'd probably lightly tint the reflector to make it a darker orange.

That looks like too much black, I don't think it would look right on my car.

I've thought about painting some parts black, but the 6th gen headlights don't have very good framing like the 6.5's, so it'll be hard to select which parts should be black.

As much as I'd love to do the 6.5 conversion, I don't feel like spending that much on the car right now.

Undecided, but still leaning towards leaving them unpainted. I have a broken headlight housing from a headlight I purchased for parts, maybe I'll experiment with some plastidip and see what I can come up with.

Since you already have a broken headlight to experiment with, you could tape off the little rings around the headlight and turn signal. It'll give it a more of a VIP/custom look.

Anyways, if you aren't planning on changing your rims than leaving the headlights the way they are looks good too.

Yeah I've thought about leaving chrome rings around the front of the projector and turn signals, or even the whole projector and turn signal housings chrome. It really is a hard design to work with, but I guess I'll just try it out since the extra headlight housing is going to be trashed anyways.

For some reason I don't think I like how it looks in gloss. It looks like RAZ used gloss, and something about it bothers me. I think a satin black would look much more OEM.

I'm only using plastidip on a spare broken headlight to see if I can get a design that I like.

Those were not gloss. The lens makes it look that way. My 08 ones are not gloss either.

Yeah man, taping it off right and deciding on a design is definitely one of the hardest parts. Gotta be happy with the final outcome. Or you'll end up like me and have to keep repainting it until I was happy LOL.

Okay. I'm not sure what it is then, maybe there's too much black for me.

Yeah, if I do it I only want to do it once. That, and once it's painted there's no going back to chrome (without buying new headlights lol).

I wish it was simple lol. I need to think about the overall look and the possible future look of my car.

Bumping this to see if anyone's done it on a white maxima. My friend and I were working on my brakes today and he suggested I do black housing w/my headlights. I have the black-and-white thing going on.

Black headlights have been done to death. Unfadeable and Kronickz had two of the best white Max's, they both had blacked headlights.

I'm changing the look of my car, I don't think black headlights will fit in.
