Speedometer Cluster Question..

Has anyone ever swapped out their speedometer cluster for any reason..? I'm trying to find out if the mileage is stored in the ECU or the speedometer cluster itself since it's digital..

why are you concerned with the mileage?

if you trying to do what i think your trying to do, let me be the first to say, its against the law and comes with sever penalties, its not hard to figure out if the mileage has been tampered with, and not to mention, unethical on so many different levels.

U want an answer,, here is the answer... do what u wish to do..because thats ur car.. but be aware of the lawys.. if its not for sale..do what u desire to do...Please do not change cluster to drop the mileage n then sell it to someone...

---The mileage is stored in the cluster...Not the ECU.. So change the cluster will change the mileage--

a HUGE HUGE part of me REALLY really wants to not say any of this.. and im kicking my self as i type. but... the mileage is kept not just on your gauge cluster, yes that is where it will show, but its also kept in your cars ecu, untouchable with a reset, its also kept at all the service shops you went to to get an oil change, fix a broken part, or whatever you did, the DMV has all the mileage each time your register, ect.. and you can easily look it up, and most people do before they buy a second or third hand car, the person who sold you the vehicle will also have the mileage documented.

i didn't wanna tell you this because if you doing this to scam people i want you to get caught for fraud, which is a felony btw and means jail time with huge fines, but as much as i would get my kicks out of knowing you would get caught for cheating people like this, i care more for the guy who would be getting cheated by you because although the state will lock you up, they won't pay for that guys loss, so letting you know all this up front and deterring you from even starting this BS is more important than what i want.

if im wrong and you have a legitimate reason for this, then ill gladly take back my assumptions, but if not, you know where i stand. and for the rest of you, before you give out information that could aid someone in illegal activity where people get hurt, use your brain and do what is right.

I will bite, I had asked the same question about 3 months ago..the reason being I moved to Canada and wanted everything in kmph as opposed to mph. In the past when I had a 2000 Maxima it had a crack in the speedometer, from the previous owner, and I wanted to replace it. There are legit reasons why you want to have a speedometer changed, though there are not a lot!

Really. How can it be retrieved? I'm a victim of odometer swindle. When I bought by 06 last year May it had 39k plus, but I found out later that it was 90k plus. I'd really like to know the exact reading.

im sorry bro, it really suck there are people in this world that have no problem screwing others over.

but give Nissan a call, i think they can figure it out for you. at the least get on carfax and look up the last service record and you can estimate it yourself. did you call the police and get the guy busted at least? if he gets away with it once, he'll just do it again.

Thanks. I'm so far off (I'm in Nigeria) for Nissan to be of much help to me. Yeah, it was with the aid of carfax that I was able to deduce the approximate reading of 90k plus. I also confirmed via email from the original owner, whose complimentary card with address I found in the car. The guy who got the car for me challenged the dealer and all the shameless swindler could say was that we could always return the car if no longer interested---of course the car was already on its way to Africa!

Damn.. I just simply asked a question and yet everyone is jumping to conclusion to the top 3 bad things.. The reason why I asked, since y'all fine folks are so willing to jump to conclusions.. Is because I was mess'n with my speedometer cluster to do the blue led light swap and I happen to break on of the needles and looked for a replacement on eBay.. I'm under factory warranty and I know Nissan is not going to cover for a speedometer cluster that I tampered with and wanted to know if my mileage word be stored to not have any issues "in miles" with my extended warranty.. I love my maxima and I'm not willing to sell it.. It's like asking me to sell my child or loved one.. So for those who were "judging the book by it's cover" take the opportunity to open up the book and read the contents..

surely you didn't think you could ask that kinda question without people jumping to conclusion. would it really have been so hard to include your reasoning in your first post?

For those of us that have been on here for a while this very topic was in several threads. Lucky1, you are in the same boat that many of the people who modded their LEDs were in. IIRC, some swapped them out for other clusters that had the mod already done so their mileage did not display the true number and noboby ripped them a new one for doing it.

My assumption was that you were going to swap in the 6.5 gen cluster. Its a lot eaiser to assume the best in people rather than the worst. Good luck.

Don't listen to 20 stinky eggs. He's wasn't held enough as a child. I have replaced like 3 or 4 clusters. Every time I did, I found one that was within 30 or 40 miles to the original. Dealer will not reset it and when they do, they send them out and they charge over 300 dollars.

Go to ebay, find one that has the miles pretty close to yours and get it. Ignore stinky eggs, everyone else does.

sorry lucky1, in this world you never know peoples intentions anymore.. sorry to hear about your cluster.. did you at least get the lighting that you wanted? do you have pics?

and sharbnyc you stupid mother ****er... you had no idea what his intentions were, none! do you personally know this guy? didn't think so.. and you willingly aided in his answer. it was just as likely he was doing it to scam people then it was to fix a mistake. and sorry again to the OP.. we all make stupid mistakes, i make them regularly, its part of learning and becoming better at what we do.

having the attitude of its his life, and has nothing to do with me, its not illegal unless you get caught bs, makes you another run of the mill ***hole who doesn't give a **** about the well being of others, or the social order of the greater good for everyone.

you have a criminals mindset without the ***** to do any of it yourself. or do you? how can you get on my for wanting to protect others from a scam? which side are you fighting, or have you already made that clear, you would be criminal. you call me a kid? i have more loyalty, honor, and respect for myself and others then your weak, shameful ***. say what you want you pathetic piece of ****. i'll never respect a ***** like you.

WOW is right, i have no respect for an enabler who is wiling to help a criminal
because its not his problem when an innocent person gets screwed under his advice.

and come on raz, i know we like to bicker at each other but he asked a suspicous question. it'd be like me posting a question "How to break into a locked maxima" and then say later i locked my keys inside. i think you and I can both agree that giving out information that helps criminals be better criminals is not a good use of this forum and it would be wise to withhold information until the true intent is known.

unless you agree with the nyc chump who doesn't care who he helps, and is just as willing to help a criminal trying to screw an .org member like costee than a .org member with a legitimate problem like you and I.

Do you know the OP personally? Can you read his mind and his motives on why he wants to know this?? How do you know he's a criminal?? Have you done a background check on him ( you have issues if you did). See how easy you judged a guy based solely on one simple question. Yes a lot of times you can tell how a person is by a lot of things they write but not just by asking a simple question, sorry.

Now to answer you question. If a guy has 90K on his car and buys a different cluster with 40k and sells his car as 40K. Yes that is fraud for one, immoral and wrong on every level. However, I would only worry about this issue on cars older then 10 years. Cars 10 years or newer, the miles are recorded by law. You can not buy or sell a car without those records. After 10 it doesn't matter, the DMV will not keep records of it or ask you about it. You sign a paper stating the miles are original and true.

ah i think you misunderstood me i never called the OP a criminal. that word is reserved for the nyc chump who doesn't care if he helps one. the farthest i got with the OP was to write upon a possible assumption.

With responses like these that 20eggs spouts off, no wonder he has a thread made about him. There has never been another thread made about another member just to call him an ***. I am wondering when the BAN HAMMER will be brought out of retirement. This type of behavior wouldn't have been tolerated 3 years ago.

To the OP, I feel bad since everyone here is so judgmental. You come here to ask a question and want an answer. Anyone thinking that an anonymous warning on the internet is going to deter anyone from committing a crime is fooling themselves. Just give the man an answer.

For what it's worth, I pulled my cluster and never could get the pins for the PRND display under the speedo to line up correctly. I know how tricky it can get and I have a blank PRND display to show for my efforts.

maybe if you actually read the thread you would see that i didn't jump to conclusions, like you just did.

This doesn't sound like you thought there was a legit reason. You must have forgotten to go back and edit one in like you normally do to cover your mistakes.

are you stupid? yes it does.. i said "if you are" making whatever i had to say per that case. i didn't start that quote with "let me be the first to say," already acting on a judgment..

you must not comprehend level 2 sentences and abstract thought.

seriously, your not worth it..

im off this thread.

I'm just trying to find a speedometer cluster to clear up my mistake.. Well, dispute all this commotion.. Would anyone happen to know anyone who's parting out a 6.5 gen maxima..? And if so, I will be at the east coast maxima meet to save shipping cost for both parties.. Either PM me or email me at Luckie1ne@GMail.Com.. Also for people who are attending the east coast maxima meet from Boston.. I would like to gather members from the Boston area to drive to CT together.. I will be leaving around 7-8 am.. Again feel free to PM or Email me..

You can not read or understand your own rambling thoughts. Reread what you wrote- I am not the only one that can comprehend that you slammed him as being unethical and against the law. Starting your sentence with the word IF does not negate the fact that you thought he was trying to deceive someone about the true number of miles. Trust me- my reading comprehension level is at a level that you will never attain. You state that you are done with this thread yet you post another response 4 hours later. I wish- and I'm sure many others join me in this wish- that you would be done with this forum. You are a little plastidipped baby. Take your pacifier and your blanket and go take a nap. For gods sake- can someone BAN this guy for just being stupid?

For gods sake- can someone BAN this guy for just being stupid?

its not difficult to understand what twentyeggs is saying. And i agree with him from trying to stand up and do what he thinks is right especially since its in the interest of everyone else.

secondly you are doing exactly what you hate twentyeggs for. your a drama queen, thats all your doing. you trying to pick a fight like a little b*tch. your whole baby pacifier joke is pathetic, childish, and is begging for more drama. I rather YOU and RAZ76 get off the forum and never return. it would be a better place without you. its little B*tch a** annoying little F*ckers like you that bring this forum down. you instigate problems for everyone.

Oh, thank you for showing me the error of my ways. Not. Now, you just did what you accused me of- making drama. That makes you a hypocrite. Dork newbie. Maybe you should follow your own suggestions and leave.

If you could read what 20eggs said, he accused the OP to be trying to rollback odometer and cheat. Then, instead of apologizing for jumping to conclusions he tries to say that he never said the guy was trying to deceive anyone with quotes like " if you trying to do what i think your trying to do, let ME be the FIRST to say, its against the law..." So agree with his position that the OP was trying to break the law? I would love to hear your defense of his indefensible position.

nowhere in this thread did 20eggs say the op was scamming people, only spoke in regards to IF he was, leaving (like he said) the possibility that he had a legit reason. and this all happened before the OP even responded, and the very second the OP gave his reasoning, 20eggs began to help thus proving he wasn't point blank accusing him of scamming.

Okay, I'm just gonna straight'n this out so everyone'z on the same page.. Twentyeggs did make it seem like he was jumping to conclusions but when he found out the reason for the thread, he did apologize and added in his thoughts on helping.. Yes, in a way he was wrong for not knowing the whole truth but again, he did apologize.. Apology accepted..

I also understand badblackmaxsl's point of view also, by pretty much saying "don't judge a book by it's cover" we're all on the org some way, some how to get help or to even socialize, see other members idea's etc..

Since it seems like everyone'z on twentyeggs case about the situation.. I'm just gonna come out and say, you made a mistake by jumping to conclusion and did apologize on your behalf.. So who cares what everyone else says..

Badblackmaxsl, thanks for understanding my point of view by stating "don't judge a book by it's cover but rather open it up and read the contents" but on twentyeggs defense, he did apologize bro..

Now, can we all just do what we all became members of the org for..? Hook up our maxima's, hook up with lots of hot women, and go on about our life.. It's not that serious..
